Review for Asylum (Asylum, #1)

Asylum (Asylum, #1) Might contain spoilers. (not big ones though)

I was planning to buy this book, and while it is 3 stars (so decent), I am happy I didn’t buy it immediately. It was a disappointment, there where barely any pictures, and most wouldn’t be what I was expecting. I mean less pictures of patients (real or not?), more of spooky empty hallways, more of rooms, the theatre.

Also the characters. Ugh. I really disliked our main character throughout a big, big part of the book. He turned out a bit better. Abby was ok, I really liked her and her story, and I was actually cheering for her.

I found it a bit of a big coincidence that 2 of our 3 main characters had a history with the asylum (they might not have known it until a bit further in the book, but still. One is nice, but 2… not really)

There were also other things. Like the the fact that they just re-used an asylum for a dorm. Like nothing happened down there. Nothing gruesome, nothing special. Really some people should learn the history and see if a place is good or bad.

Apparently the ending hints to a second book, and while I am kinda hoping for it, I felt it was pretty conclusive. Sure we still have answers, and some new questions, but for me it was done. And I don’t think I will continue with this series. Unless the second book is exceptional and awesome.

In overall, a good book, but if you are looking for a spooky asylum and beautiful pictures of asylums, then I would suggest you find another book. If you don’t mind a story like what I just mentioned, then go ahead and read it, it is perfect for you. 🙂
