Review for Stargirl (Stargirl #1)
This was a truly magical book.
Leo was a wonderful character, and even at the end I really liked him. I can imagine why he did what he did, why he wished Stargirl would for once just be normal. Nobody wants to be ignored forever, nobody wants to be hurt by others and I can also imagine he was embarrassed at times. Stargirl was at times a bit too extreme. But I know he loved her, a whole lot.
Stargirl, well where should I begin? I have conflicted emotions and feelings regarding that character. At times I applauded her for her bravery, her originality and at times I felt like she was 10 years old and just craving for attention. I don’t know how isolated she was because of her home-schooling, but I felt at times it was too much. The way she reacted and acted was just too extreme. And bringing a rat, or actually any pet to school? What kind of school is that, that allows that? Where I live, you can’t just bring in pets. If you do you will get a warning or even suspension. So that was a bit weird.
But again, at times I loved her. She is a wonderful girl, but I really can’t determine her age. For how she is written at times I would say 10 years old, at some points I would say 14 or 15.
I loved her and Leo’s relationship and how they fitted so well at times.
In overall I loved the book, but again, Stargirl is a character that is not for everyone. So I would recommend this book, but on the other hand also not.
