Review for The Haunting of Sunshine Girl: Book One

21413855I received this book from Netgalley/publishers in exchange for an honest review.

Wow, wow, wow this book was great! At first I expected this to be just an ordinary (but fun) haunted house situations with possessions and scary stuff happening. However, quite soon you find out there is more to it than that. There is a reason why Sunshine has moved, there is a reason why she can sense spirits and only she can save her mom and the rest of the world. At times it was a bit unbelievable especially with the whole Luiseach stuff (I still can’t pronounce that word, I just pronounce it either as Louiseach or as Luis(Dutch word)+each). I wish the author had picked a more easy word for this thing. I can imagine one wants to be fancy and all that, but people still need to pronounce it. And what the Luiseach thing is, you will have to find out for yourself! I am not spoiling anything on that topic, since I want people to be surprised, just like I was surprised by it.

Our main character Sunshine was a wonderful character, though at times I wished she would get herself together. She complained often and didn’t believe in things (which was kind of weird. She does believe and interact with ghosts and knows something is wrong, but can’t believe in the whole Luiseach thing). At times I wished she would step up and do her thing.
But other than that Sunshine was interesting. I loved her hobbies, how she took photographs of stuff and had big dreams. How she tried to continue with her life even with all the scary and creepy stuff happening around her. I felt for her as her mother progressively got worse and things really went from creepville to creeptastic city. And I was cheering a lot for our girl.

Then we have Nolan, ah swoon. He was really sweet and I really liked him. How he believed Sunshine, how he tried to protect and help her. He was a really sweet guy and I kept hoping Sunshine and he would get together (and if that happens, well you have to read the book!).

The story itself is great, the hauntings and whatever takes over the mom made me sleep less for 2 days (so yeah! That means it is a good book to me). I read the book partially during the night, so imagine how I felt, at times I was just squeezing my tablet/e-reader and looking around me for any scary noises. Yes, the book is that creepy.
However there are also times it was boring and that I was just looking forward to more excitement. Those parts were mostly the parts about the Luiseach or Sunshine’s past and her parents.

I heard this book was written around some Youtube series that I never heard of. Well if those videos are as good as this book is, then I might just be checking them out. I do hope that they will write more books about this Youtube series, I just checked and it seems there are quite a few episodes. So I want to know how things go.

All in all I would really recommend this book. It is awesome, creepy and interesting.
