Waiting on Wednesday ~ Like No Other and Awkward
Greetings all!
How is everyone doing on this Wednesday? Me? I am doing pretty fine, reading some great books this week(currently reading Map to the Stars).
What are my most anticipated books this week?
Fate brought them together. Will life tear them apart? Devorah is a consummate good girl who has never challenged the ways of her strict Hasidic upbringing. Jaxon is a fun-loving, book-smart nerd who has never been comfortable around girls (unless you count his four younger sisters). They’ve spent their entire lives in Brooklyn, on opposite sides of the same street. Their paths never crossed…until one day, they did.
When a hurricane strikes the Northeast, the pair becomes stranded in an elevator together, where fate leaves them no choice but to make an otherwise risky connection. Though their relationship is strictly forbidden, Devorah and Jaxon arrange secret meetings and risk everything to be together. But how far can they go? Just how much are they willing to give up?
Cardinal rule #1 for surviving school: Don’t get noticed by the mean kids.
Cardinal rule #2 for surviving school: Seek out groups with similar interests and join them.On her first day at her new school, Penelope–Peppi–Torres reminds herself of these basics. But when she trips into a quiet boy in the hall, Jaime Thompson, she’s already broken the first rule, and the mean kids start calling her the “nerder girlfriend.” How does she handle this crisis? By shoving poor Jaime and running away!
Falling back on rule two and surrounding herself with new friends in the art club, Peppi still can’t help feeling ashamed about the way she treated Jaime. Things are already awkward enough between the two, but to make matters worse, he’s a member of her own club’s archrivals–the science club! And when the two clubs go to war, Peppi realizes that sometimes you have to break the rules to survive middle school!
So why do I really want to read those books?
These books are both pre-orders. Like No Other is actually a book from last year, but after reading a small excerpt I wanted to book. Sadly, it was only out in hardcover, so I decided to wait for the paperback to come out. And guess what, next week it is releasing! I am so excited about that book, the small excerpt was just wonderful, both characters seemed so great and interesting and I just wanted to see how they would (if they would) get together. I am also really interested in both of their lives, it is so much different from what I normally see in YA books.
For the second book, well I love graphic novels, and this one just sounds super adorable and I have seen some of the art being previewed, and I have to say it looks really great. I also adore that cover, it just matches the title so well, and I love how the background is in black-white (with some interesting stuff happening there), while the main characters are in colour. I also am curious about the rules, and how Peppi will go about to break them. There are enough books about middle school and surviving it, but I hope that this one will have just a different twist to it than normally.
