This was a really interesting book, and I am sure that kids, especially those who are soon to be a big brother or sister will be interested in reading this one. There is a lot of explaining on what a baby means, what various things are that happens around the baby (for instance Emily’s mother is sleeping a lot and Emily found that weird, well that is until her dad explained about the feeding and that it needed to be done every 2/3 hours). I have to say that even though there is a lot of explanation everything is told in a way that kids will instantly get it. It isn’t written clinically, but with emotion and in a fun way.
Emily is surprisingly happy with the baby for most of the time. But you can also see that she doesn’t always like the whole baby situation. When the baby cries (especially during the night), or when the baby needs to get a clean diaper.
There are also several illustrations, and I wish there had been some more illustrations in the book, it would have also made it more accessible for the younger kids, and might have made it more attractive for them to read the book.
Other than that, this is a short book, but packed with a fun story and good explanations. There is also an intro with some tips and hints, and at the end we also have a glossary with terms.
All in all, I think this would be a good book to use for kids who are soon to be big brothers or big sisters.
