Review for Have You Seen My Giraffe?

A delightful nonsense book about a girl who wins a giraffe at a carnival and the trouble that comes with that.

Remember the times when one could win a goldfish at a carnival? Or maybe something else equally small? Well, those times are long gone. These days one can just win a giraffe (oh boy, I would love that). But where do you leave such a big animal? And what do the parents think?

And that is what this book all about. A girl so happy with her price, but her parents aren’t happy as such a big animal just doesn’t work in a normal home. She tries to show them it fits.. but I guess you can see what will happen. So the girl tries all sorts of options to camouflage her giraffe so that he can stay. Like having the giraffe dress up as a mop, or paint it. I was having such a fun time watching our little girl do everything for her new friend, and to see the giraffe being so eager to help out, as he also wanted to stay.

The ending first had me worried, oh no! And then I was grinning a giant smile. Ha, and no I won’t tell you more about it. If you want to know what the girl plots and plans, and to see the ending, you will have to read this delightful, nonsense, absurd, silly, crazy, giraffey book yourself.

Also pluspoints to the title in Dutch which I love way more than the original title. Namely Hoe verstop je een giraf? which translated would mean: How do you hide a giraffe?. It just fits way better with the book as with the English title it seems like the giraffe is missing.

The illustrations are top notch, I love the style, the colours used, everything. And definitely bonus points to the cover where tons of bubbles really bubble and float out of the book.

All in all, a recommendation to all! Kids and adults will definitely love this book, it is funny, hilarious, silly, and who can resist a giant giraffe?
