Review for Hello, Hot Dog

Review for Hello, Hot Dog

I read this one in Dutch, but will write my review in English.

So, I was quite intrigued by this book, the cover looked adorable, and I was quite curious how the hot dog would run away (then again, sentient hot dog? Eh?).

Sadly, I have to say, I wasn’t much laughing or snickering. In fact I was mostly wondering how this hot dog was sentient (are there more of him/her?), was able to talk to bees (yes, really), and also able to move (well, just roll). I guess, I shouldn’t think about those things, just turn my brain off, but my brain just doesn’t want to turn off, if only, so I was constantly rolling my eyes at the silliness. I just couldn’t enjoy this book.

Warning, small spoilers. In fact, I was actually rooting for a fun ending in which he gets eaten, I know I know, very cruel of me. shrugs Because now what? You are on the floor? Yay? Congrats? Enjoy your “freedom”.

The only thing that kept me going was the wonderful art, I truly liked that one. The colours used, the way the hot dog was drawn (with cute little cheeks under his eyes that popped up when he smiled).

But all in all? Not so much fun for me. Oh well, you can’t like everything in life.
