Late night Wednesday to everyone~ Wednesday is almost over here, I am so busy with my new home that posts like these may turn up late. But here we are! And this week I got a graphic novel I am very excited for, even though it may take a while as I am going to be hoping one of my libraries will have it (small chance it is a) English and b) Graphic novel), I refuse to buy First Second Books (only buying maybe 1 each year if it is REALLY special).
This week a graphic novel by an artist that makes some amazing things, Mariko Tamaki. Featuring LGBT romance, relationships and that one should go for a healthy one instead of a toxic (curious to see how Laura Dean ticks and tocks), friendship, advice columnists (will we be seeing some columns?), and of course terrific art. I am just looking at the cover here, and knowing what I know of the artist’s work.
Wish me luck and hope with me that one of my libraries will have it.
Reeling from her latest break up, Freddy’s best friend, Doodle, introduces her to the Seek-Her, a mysterious medium, who leaves Freddy some cryptic parting words: break up with her. But Laura Dean keeps coming back, and as their relationship spirals further out of her control, Freddy has to wonder if it’s really Laura Dean that’s the problem. Maybe it’s Freddy, who is rapidly losing her friends, including Doodle, who needs her now more than ever. Fortunately for Freddy, there are new friends, and the insight of advice columnists like Anna Vice to help her through being a teenager in love.
Mariko Tamaki and Rosemary Valero-O’Connell bring to life a sweet and spirited tale of young love that asks us to consider what happens when we ditch the toxic relationships we crave to embrace the healthy ones we need.
