Waiting on Wednesday ~ Pie in the Sky

Waiting on Wednesday ~ Pie in the Sky

Evening all,

Today a book I first had on my list, then I read the blurb wasn’t sure and removed it, and now after seeing the fun excerpts and photos of the pages it is back again and I am going to be buying it soon as it is out! Yep, this is one WoW where I am not waiting for the book to come out but waiting for me to buy the book.

It is about immigration, starting fresh in a strange country, about pie and cakes, and about family. The only problem I have is that I am not too happy with young kids using the oven unsupervised. I get that they want to make cake/pie, but yeah.. But other than that, I can’t wait to read this book and read all about Jingwen’s experiences at school and how he adjusts to all the new things he will surely experience.

Plus the cover is adorable and I also love the inside art.

Sometimes life isn’t a piece of cake . . .

When Jingwen moves to a new country, he feels like he’s landed on Mars. School is torture, making friends is impossible since he doesn’t speak English, and he’s often stuck looking after his (extremely irritating) little brother, Yanghao.

To distract himself from the loneliness, Jingwen daydreams about making all the cakes on the menu of Pie in the Sky, the bakery his father had planned to open before he unexpectedly passed away. The only problem is his mother has laid down one major rule: the brothers are not to use the oven while she’s at work. As Jingwen and Yanghao bake elaborate cakes, they’ll have to cook up elaborate excuses to keep the cake making a secret from Mama.
