Review for How to Defeat the Icky, Filthy, Creepy, Slimy, Corona Monster!
I received this book from the author in exchange of an honest review.
I was definitely curious when I got a request mail for this book. A book about Corona for kids? That sounds interesting. After reading I can say I am glad I got the chance to try this book.
In this book we learn about the corona monster. I have to say I love how he looks, he is a true monster with teeth and big arms and fists, you know that he isn’t going to be defeated easily. But we can defeat him and the author explains to us that there are three steps (and then some other precautions), washing hands, good manners (aka don’t sneeze or cough in someone’s face), and then there is social distance. Something that many adults also should do, so maybe they should also read this book.
Then there is some positivity, that the monster may seem scary (he is) and that it may not all go okay, but in the end it will be. I loved that this was added. That it isn’t just about what to do to protect you and others but also give a positive and motivational message. It was great that the book offered a peek into the future in which the big monster has been defeated, something that will probably happen when we have a vaccine. I am sure kids will be happy to know that we can defeat this dastardly Corona monster.
The book is in rhyme, or at least for most, a few pages didn’t seem to have rhyme which was a bit confusing. Now this may also have to do with me not being English and getting the pronunciation wrong.
I really like the message from the author at the beginning, it really made me smile and his words were great.
The art was OK.
I think this book is a great read for children, but given how people are acting now that things are opening up again, maybe also for adults. 😛
