Review for Hush Up and Hibernate

Review for Hush Up and Hibernate

Hush Up and Hibernate, Sandra Markle, Howard McWilliam, Bears, Cub, Forest, Yellow, Orange, Children's Books, Animals, Picture BookI received this book from Booksirens in exchange of an honest review.

It is that time of the year again for certain animals. It is getting colder and colder and it is time to hibernate. But as I have read in other books like this one, it isn’t always something everyone wants to do. And I don’t blame them. You lose a couple of months just sleeping. Though, OK, at the moment I would take that. Hopefully when I wake up the world is a brighter and safer place.

In this cute book we see a tiny baby bear who keeps making up excuses (I am hungry, I am x, I am y) every time his mom tells him they should hibernate. I had a laugh at that, the bear is just like human kids who don’t want to go to bed yet. Though in this one I could understand it a bit more. It is not just a night, it is a lot of nights.

I loved that mom was dead honest with her cub when he asked why they should hibernate and she really didn’t make it any nicer for the little one. She was going to hibernate (go mom) and if he didn’t want to, well so be it. I can imagine her frustration though, because DANG that little one is really persistent. I had a big laugh at the end of the book when it seemed to all go well and then BOOM. Good luck mom. 😛

The art is just so gorgeous, really, I was just amazed by the prettiness of it all. I could just seem myself walk around the beautiful forest, jump into the river. The illustrator has a beautiful style with many details and great colour choices.

I like the extra bit at the end about bears and hibernation and it also gives some information on other hibernators.

All in all this is a funny and gorgeously drawn book and I would recommend it to all. I had so much fun reading it.
