In this story we see how two girls are beyond excited to go to their grandparents and their farm. The kids are not planning to go to sleep (which reminds me of how I was when I was a kid and had something VERY exciting to look forward to). They are bouncing on their beds! They want a bedtime story! And what better story than the story of El Lechón Choncho, aka their mom’s pet pig! The pig is HUGE, like superhuge! I am not sure what the pig is eating, but haha, it is a lot. XD I really enjoyed the story, and just loved reading about that crazy pig and how he saved mom’s mom life from a crazy (not the good crazy like our pig, but mad crazy) bull. That was quite the story and I was just rooting for El Lechón Choncho! What a brave pig! I know that dogs would save their owners, but I hadn’t heard about pigs, so I loved it!
I love that this story is based on the adventures the author’s mother had with her favourite family pet: Choncho the pig while she grew up on the family farm! I always love books that are about family history and fun things that happened during childhoods. Having a pig as a pet sounds way much more fun than having goldfish. Haha. I wouldn’t mind a pet pig!
I love that there were Spanish words interspersed in the story along with translation following. For most I didn’t need that translation, while my Spanish is pretty basic (it’s been years since I did a small course, which I sadly had to stop as I moved with my now husband), I knew what the words meant. Plus, I tried to stick to that word if I didn’t know it right away to see if I could get the translation back in my head.
The illustrations were pretty great! The style, I really liked it!
All in all, I am really happy I had the chance to read this fun book! I would recommend it to all~
