Review for Sumo Opposites
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
The first one of the two Sumo books I got from Netgalley. I also got Sumo Counting (look forward to a review for that coming tomorrow). I just couldn’t resist these adorable/fun looking books.
In this book we get all the opposites! Being Asleep and Awake, Up and Down, and many more fun opposites done in a fun style that had me smiling so much! Just what I needed as I just had my first vaccine shot yesterday (writing this one on 27th May). I could use something cute and fun and this is definitely it. I loved the various opposites that were picked and loved seeing how they were portrayed. Like the full, not meaning that he is full, but that is table is full. Next is empty and it is carnage, there is no food any where. Everything has been gobbled up by our sumo wrestler. Haha, he sure was hungry.
While the blurb specifies that it is about Japanese culture, I thought the sumo wrestlers and what they do would be that. But there is more! We also learn Japanese words, in both romaji and in the written language. I knew all the words! Guess something stuck over the years watching anime, working at an anime/japanese online radio, and maybe learning a bit of Japanese (though constantly giving up as it is just too much). I love that kids can learn opposites and Japanese words thanks to this fun book.
The art was just adorable. I love the little sumo wrestlers.
All in all, recommended! This is such a fun little read and I am sure kids will love it!

This looks so cute and perfect to learn more about Japanese culture.
It definitely was all that! Wouldn’t mind more books like this one~
Ahh this book is so cute! I’m so glad you reviewed it. I like that it educates on Japanese culture by also teaching Japanese words!
Aww, thank you! Yep, that also made me happy, I thought it was just going to be opposites but instead it add something extra!
