Review

I received this book from The Children’s Book Review promotions in exchange of an honest review.

My first Christmas book of the year and I had tons of fun reading! We start off pretty sweet and Christmassy but then a Grinch-like elf pops up who is definitely not feeling any Christmas spirit. He has all sorts of demands and I was ready to pelt him with snowballs. No more fun? No more play? Not allowing x or y? Well, no just no. Christmas is a party. Christmas is celebration, lights and presents. So I was rooting hard for our little elf named Eve who just wanted it to be fun again. To find that Christmas spirit.

I had fun following her on the journey to find that spirit, to get her friends to be happy again, to make everything right. It was very sweet and inspirational to see how Eve continued and how nothing was deterring her from anything. How her heart shone bright and her spirit was so Christmassy it was the thing everyone needed.

I had a laugh at the end. Oh hohohoho. XD Go Santa! And it wasn’t just all laughing because the right thing happened, but also because something very sweet and happy happens that warmed my heart.

I loved that the book was in rhyme, though at times it just wasn’t flowing for me in the right way, maybe because I am Dutch, but I had to read back at times as I just didn’t see what rhymed.

The art was just so cute and I love how the main colours are green, red, white. With dashes of orange. Eve was just too adorable (just as the spirit was also too cute).

All in all, a lovely picture book that warmed me and made me smile. 100% Christmas feelings guaranteed.

“The day before Christmas is a very special day,

That never had its own name.

But that all changed when one special elf,

Rose to glory and fame.

Eve was an elf with such get up and go,

She worked hard and loved to play.

But the Head Elf ran Christmas with an iron fist,

And this was what he had to say…”
