I just couldn’t resist this adorable looking book when I spotted it over at Netgalley. I just love stories about finding out who you are. About animals.
In this cute book we meet a little bird who is deadly afraid of flying. His parents and his brothers/sisters do encourage him… but he just doesn’t dare take the big big leap into the sky and flap his wings. I found it so sad for the little bird that he just never dared, that he would rather stay in the nest with new brother/sisters then be free. So I was kind of happy with the event that took place some time after. Curiosity got the better of him, and instead of the saying Curiosity Killed the Cat, it woke something up in our little bird. He found out that there were other ways and fun things to see.
While I did love seeing what he discovered in this gorgeous city (and definitely wanted to step into the book to experience these things as well) I was also eagerly waiting for the moment for him to figure out that flying isn’t so bad. I mean, I wouldn’t mind if he didn’t and just kept on with his journey.. but it just felt weird seeing a bird not fly (I know penguins and ostriches, but this is a bird that is supposed to fly).
The ending just made me smile! So much! It was adorable and cute and made me go awwww a lot! I was so happy for the bird and his family. And I wish I could be there for all the new adventures our little bird will have.
The illustrations were just gorgeous and I love the style, the colours (it was so beautiful and bright). Some of these illustrations I would love to have a print in my house.
All in all, a wonderful adventurous story about a little bird, you will be rooting for this little guy.
