Review for Lore Olympus: Volume 1

Lore Olympus: Volume One (Lore Olympus Volumes #1) by Rachel Smythe, Mythology, Persephone, Hades, Romance, Pretty, cover Love, Gods, Goddesses,A beautiful graphic novel about mythology, romance and more~ I finally read the first volume!

I have been eyeing this series for a while. It kept popping up on my Twitter, my Webtoon front page found I should read it, and there are the blogs. Haha. So yesterday I decided it was high time to get started on this one. Apparently it is still on Webtoon so I could go to there and read it.

I have to say I love mythology, though it is mostly very basic + I am just terrible at remembering all the facts. Haha. So while reading I had to at times just look up things. Like why did Persephone’s hair just magically grow? What is up with the flowers? What was the deal again between x and y. I don’t mind at all to search things, if anything, I just love it when I learn something while reading so I was eagerly soaking up all the new details.

In this one we mostly follow Persephone/Hades, but we also get to see many other gods and goddesses. We see all parts of the world, from the Underworld with some hilarious neon signs to the upperworld with glitter and spark. While I know the story, or at least one of the stories as like with all mythology there are many sides to stories, I was definitely shipping Hades and Persephone. I loved how sweet and gentleman he was when he found her drunk in his car. He made sure she was safe. Made sure that everything was good. Plus, I just adored their conversation there. Especially the facial expressions were brilliant. These two are teasing/flirting and it was cute!

Persephone was a fun character, though so so naïve. I guess that is what you get when your mom is a helicopter mom and constantly watches every move. It was quite fun to see her try to make a new life for herself with her best friend. Discover the world. Find out what she wants.

I loved that each god/goddess had their own colour. From blue for Hades to pink for Persephone! It made things way more easier to follow as really, there are just too many characters in this one to remember as is. This helps enormously. Plus, I think it is a fun and creative idea!

Oh, and bonus points to the cute dogs and puppers that Hades has! My boy Cerberus of course, but Hades also got a lot of other dogs!

There is one chapter that made me cry and want to kick someone back to mortaldom and that is the chapter with Apollo. God, what a total dickwad that guy is. While it isn’t too graphically shown, you know full well what is happening in the chapter and I had a tough time to read it. Poor Persephone, hope that she and Hades will bring hell to that guy.

I loved the art and the colours, however sometimes things were a bit too stilted for my likes. It could use much more movement.

All in all, I really cannot wait to read more of this one. Yes, it was a tad confusing because I just don’t know all there is about mythology, but that is what Google is for. XD I want to know how this love story continues + I want to see the stories of the other gods~

Star rating, 4 stars
