Review for Your Guide to Not Getting Murdered in a Quaint English Village
A murderous fun book that made me laugh!
I am just SO STOKED that I finally got this book! Thanks to my husband for giving me this one for my birthday! This was one of my most hyped books of 2021. Maureen Johnson is just amazing and I was very curious to see what kind of murderous things would happen!
In this book we are visiting a village. Any village. Because this book is for any Quaint English Village. You know the one. Church, pub/inn, some houses, a big manor, maybe some moors. This is a guide on how not to get murdered. Though… I think you are getting murdered anyway unless you just run away/grab your car immediately after realising your mistake of going to such a cute and quaint place. I laughed my butt off reading this book. It is so murderous. So bloody. But all in a good haha way. That sounds wrong, but if you read it I am sure you will understand what I am trying to say. XD
In this book we go through various parts of the village. From the church and deadly vicar. To the pub/inn be careful of those vats, never go near anything with vats. To people who live in the village. And then there are also the surrounding areas like the manor and events are also mentioned. It was just deadly fun! It was so right and on point and reminded me of several English murder mysteries and in the case of the manor of clue. A writer of such stories is even mentioned!
Some of my favourite parts: “The Attic: Good idea. Save time. Go right to the ghost part of the house.” /// “Anyone who looks out windows: It’s curtains for you.” /// “Harvest season: The villagers are proud of their local cider, and rightly so. It’s the soil around these parts, you see, and the apple trees of the orchard must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of… you’ll do.”
I loved the intro and the outro to the book, those two parts really completed the book. Especially the outro which had me gasping! OMG, no way! That is just PERFECT! YAS!
There are also illustrations everywhere and I love the style! Jay Cooper’s art works really well and I love that the pictures are all black/white, but there are some red accents here and there, and yes, most of it may be blood. XD
All in all, this is a book I will keep on re-reading for a long long time. It was just so much fun. It made me gasp, giggle, laugh, be shocked, nod along, and more! I would highly recommend this murderous fun book to all~
