A big welcome to a new Book Tag! This time I am participating in the This Is My Genre, Tell Me Yours, Book Tag!

I was looking around again to do a new tag (really, if you have any fun book tags you would love on my blog let me know in the comments) and found this one! It isn’t easy as I got at least two favourite genres, but I went with one and will tell you the other one in this part! Ready? The other genre I love a lot is romance!

This book tag is created by Drew, the Tattooed Book Geek!

Rules are simple: Credit the original creator (Drew), Answer the Questions, Tag people (which I am not doing as the tag is almost 6 years old and I have no clue who did it or not).

πŸ˜πŸ“šπŸ’•πŸ˜˜πŸ“–πŸ˜πŸ“šπŸ’•πŸ˜˜πŸ“–πŸ˜πŸ“šπŸ’•πŸ˜˜πŸ“–πŸ˜πŸ“šπŸ’•πŸ˜˜πŸ“–
What’s your favorite genre?
*drum rolls*: HORROR!
I just love horror! From Middle Grade to Adult. Give me a good horror book featuring elements I love and I will read it! Favourite things in horror are asylums, haunted houses, ghosts, scary things that go bump in the night, mediums, scary monsters. Back when I was a kid I read things like Goosebumps. I watched Eerie Indiana. These days I watch stuff like Ringu (and other Asian horror movies) and enjoy haunted houses and asylums.
Who’s your favourite author from the genre?
Darcy Coates, Author, Photograph
Haha, just one? Well then I have to go with Darcy Coates! She writes AMAZING horror, mostly haunted houses and well you know that is my favourite thing! She can write so well that it is if you are there with the characters. I am excited about each of her new books, well, if they are about haunted houses or scary events. Look forward because I got approved for the newest book by her on Netgalley and will be writing a review!
What is it about the genre that keeps pulling you back?
That no matter how many books featuring the same elements you read there is always something new to be scared about/off. Each author has their way of writing horror. Some make it ultra-scary and terrify the wits out of you, others keep it more tactic and have some scary bits here and there, enough to scare you, to keep you reading. Plus, I love how some authors go for modern and have the MCs have modern equipment, but others keep it more gothic. You never know what you are going to get. Plus, sometimes I just need horror, something scary.
What’s the book that started your love for your favorite genre?
That is a hard question! Because seriously? I just read so much and I don’t really remember all the books I read before I got Goodreads. But I think it must be one of the Goosebumps books, though I can also vaguely remember books in Dutch that frightened the wits about me, but I just don’t know if they still exist or are findable.
If you had to recommend at least one book from your favorite genre to a nonreader/someone looking to start reading that genre, what book would you choose and why?
JUST ONE? Boo, I could give you recommendations for so many horror books. Haha. So I will do several and if you want more let me know in the comments! One of my favourite haunted houses. One for zombies. One for vampires. One manga. One Children/MG.

Higurashi When They Cry: Abducted by Demons Arc, Vol. 1 (Higurashi When They Cry Manga Japanese Numbering #1) by Ryukishi07, Karin Suzuragi , Horror, Manga, Scary
First up the manga, I would go for Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni. That one is a long one with several arcs. And it is kick-ass all the way. With gore, scariness, twists and turns, and the feeling of no escape.

Next up, Haunted houses! This one! Definitely one of Darcy Coates!

Dread Wood by Jennifer Killick, Horror, Scary, Detention, Building, Forest, Orange, Blue, Children's Book, School, Mystery
Then Children/MG and that is a recent one. Namely Dreadwood. I have several others I would love to show here, but I will pick this recent one because BOY it was terrifying and awesome and will give you the jeebies. XD Also be sure to check out Jennifer Killick’s Crater Lake series if you want more spookiness.

Through the Woods by Emily Carroll, Horror, Scary, Short Stories, Graphic NOvel,
One Graphic Novel. Definitely this gem from Emily Carroll which I keep re-reading. It contains various short stories and all of them are terrifying. Some are gore. Some are just WTF NOPE NOPE NOPE.

Feed (Newsflesh #1) by Mira Grant, Zombies, Scary,
Zombies! While I haven’t been in the mood to read about zombies the last few years, just in small doses, because hello scary pandemic, I did read quite a few before and I got quite some favourites but I will pick this one! Feed is just such an awesome read because it is so real at times. What happens when we cure cancer? Cure common colds? Something goes wrong. It is amazingly written with great characters and a wonderful story. And of course zombies and how easily one can just became a zombie.. you don’t need to be bitten.

The Hallowed Ones (The Hallowed Ones #1) by Laura Bickle , Vampires, End of the world
Vampires! What if the world is taken over by vampires? What if there are small pockets that are safe? And what happens when you are thrown out of such a pocket. A real great book and I re-read it when I can. It is a scary book and I love the MC and how strong she is despite all that happens to her.

Why do you read?
Do you have some time? Haha. But let’s see a few reasons. To escape. To see magic. To find magic. To find new families and friends. To learn. To cry and laugh and feel. To relate. To love.
πŸ˜πŸ“šπŸ’•πŸ˜˜πŸ“–πŸ˜πŸ“šπŸ’•πŸ˜˜πŸ“–πŸ˜πŸ“šπŸ’•πŸ˜˜πŸ“–πŸ˜πŸ“šπŸ’•πŸ˜˜πŸ“–

And we have reached the end of this tag! This was so much fun to do and I am happy I found this tag over at ZeZeewithbooks! If you want to do this tag go right ahead! Be sure to tag me as I just love reading book tags and see everyone’s answers~ I hope everyone has a great day, thanks for reading!

    1. Haha, for me it was a toss up between romance and horror. But it seems you would have had a more difficult time. Though you could just plop a few genres together (like historical fiction + romance or Dark romance x Historical Romance), but that still leaves a few. XD Just make it genres. Just show us all the genres!

  1. You know what’s wierd? I tried maybe 3books before falling for this quebec horror serie.. and every time it hadn’t been that great. (Considering they were arcs though.. maybe I would’ve had more luck with published books)

Thank you for those suggestions! Ive actually been looking forward to discovering new genres this year, and potentially some horror books id actually enjoy πŸ˜…

    1. That is not too weird, I know that feeling! I am currently reading an thriller/horror YA ARC and it is not doing it for me.

You’re welcome! Hope you find an amazing read in these suggestions and if you need more just ask. πŸ™‚
