Review for Funny Bums, Freaky Beaks and Other Incredible Creature Features

Funny Bums, Freaky Beaks and Other Incredible Creature Features by Alex Morss , Sean Taylor, Animals, Non-Fiction, Children's BookA really fun book in which we explore all the weird and wonderful wonders of the animal kingdom!

I came across this book during one of my book bloggers hops I do daily. I am not sure who it was anymore (I check so many blogs), but a big thank you to that mysterious blogger for talking about this book and me finding it. I just love books about animals and I am always looking for new ones.

In this book we meet all sorts of weird, strange, freaky, but also incredible animals of the animal kingdom. We got through all sorts of body parts from the neck to the tongue to see animals that have the strongest, the weirdest, the strangest, the awesomest of that body part. From the tiger and its hooks in the tongue (retractable (is that the word) for cuddles and love) to the very strange nose of the saiga. I love the selection of animals we get. Some very well-known animals, but also some I didn’t even know yet, but I am happy to meet and learn about them. Like the Cuyaba dwarf frog who has an awesome butt, or the scary scorpion fly (I am sorry, I am not one for bugs). And I am now terrified of crabeater seals, didn’t know they had those kind of teeth. shiver

There is just one thing that I think could be just a bit better. More colours. That the illustrations just match together more. Maybe just make one big illustration and add them there. For now it was just very repetitive. Animal after animal. And sure, the text was written fun, but it just got a bit samey. And that is a shame.

The illustrations were a bit weird at times, but I also love the style. Haha, I am confusing like that. There were some really pretty illustrations, but some just didn’t work for me.

All in all, I had a lot of fun reading this one. Could be a bit less samey. But I learned some new things + met some new animals, so I am happy with this book. I would recommend it.
