Review for Barnaby Is Not Afraid of Anything

Barnaby Is Not Afraid of Anything by Gilles Bizouerne, Béatrice Rodriguez , Fears, Walk, Friendship, Animals, Fun, Picture Book, Children's BooksI received this book from Netgalley/the publisher in exchange of an honest review~

A big thanks to the publisher (Princeton Architectural Press) for auto-approving me! I already had my eyes on this picture book but when I got auto-approved it meant I could request it instantly! Yes!! I just couldn’t resist this book about animal friends going for a walk and what they encounter then.

In this book we meet Barnaby, a badger who is getting ready to go on a moonlight walk (though the moon wasn’t that big) with his friends, Constance the turtle (brilliant name) and Claire the mole (love it). The trio are having a good time… until they find a print! They are trying to figure out whose print it is and I had a laugh that one suggested dinosaurs (which technically wouldn’t be wrong). And then they decide to follow that and things get a bit scarier! I had so much fun reading and following our group. They have to be very brave at times and I was excited to find out what or who was living in that hut in the swamp. Was it a scary witch? Something else that may frighten everything? Or is it just a new friend? I won’t spoil it but I was very proud of our group trying to be brave and figuring it out, I definitely hadn’t expected that animal to be the bravest of them all. Sorry to that girl!

But there is someone else we should keep an eye on. They are being followed by the frog from Barnaby’s pond! The little guy is there all the way. Hopping along. Taking a mudbath. Hiding along with our trio and even disguising himself. It was brilliant and I love that this was added. I am sure kids will be delighted to follow him, point him out as the story continues.

The art, OMG, I just loved that one so so much. It was beautiful and brilliant and I guess I will have to see if I can find more of this artist, or if I already know them.

All in all, this was a terrific book about friendship, an exciting walk, and a fun ending! I would recommend this one to all.
