Review for Bone Soup

Bone Soup: A Spooky, Tasty Tale by Alyssa Satin Capucilli, Thomas Knight , Picture Book,, Halloween, Children's Book, Funny, Ghosts, Vampires, Zombies, Mummies, Bats, Spooky, Witches, SoupA spooky Halloween food tale! With tons of fun and creatures!

I was in the mood for something spooky. And something more in the direction of a picture book! Thankfully, as I don’t really have any spooky new picture books of my own, there are a ton of fun books being read aloud on Youtube and I found one there. It wasn’t easy to pick as there were quite a few spoooky spooopy tales~ But I decided to go for something with food, even if it may not be what I would eat, haha. But my tummy is hungry so he doesn’t care at the moment. XD

Meet Scraggy, Naggy, and Craggy Witch. Yep. Their names match and made me giggle. These three girls are, just like me, hungry! And they are searching high and low to find something to chow on. But the only thing that can be found is a bone! But apparently even with that you can make a soup. Hello, bone soup! But just a soup and a cauldron isn’t enough, we need liquids, and extra yummy (well for monsters) ingredients! And then it is time for trick or treating to get other monsters to donate some extra things for the soup. I definitely laughed and loved that they went door by door to find more ingredients. I had fun seeing all the creatures and monsters that appeared when our witches (and that little girl on the cover and her big hairy dad) came by with their cauldron. And how often the monsters were wondering if it was a trick. Boo, I understand that fully. Bone soup doesn’t sound that enticing and more like a trick than a treat. I am happy that eventually they came across monsters more willing to help out. Though, I think I will just stick with the bone water now. Haha, toenails? Ewww. Sludge? Um, hard pass.

I loved seeing how the soup came together, piff poof, and I loved that it wasn’t as easy as throwing in some ingredients, oh no you need to do something extra and that made it even more fun!

We meet all sorts of monsters. All the classics. From zombies to vampires to ghosts. It was definitely spooky and exciting!

I loved the illustrations, the designs of the characters and monsters they encounter were so much fun.

All in all, I had oodles of fun with this spoooooky book! I loved that the witches didn’t give up. Loved seeing the monsters! Perfect for Halloween!

    1. So so true! I fully agree! I love reading cooking/baking books but love it even more when they are spooky themed (like that monster horror cocktail book I read a few years ago).
