Let’s get started~
Review
I received this book from The Children’s Book Review + Alysson Foti Bourque in exchange of an honest review.
I just couldn’t help but sign up for this book! It just sounded way too cute and I was eager to be part of this sleepover (who doesn’t love a good sleepover??) and also I needed to know who the surprise guest was!
I loved that we got some mystery before the sleepover started, I was so curious why her friend couldn’t be there and what more she said that we didn’t get to read as the connection wasn’t good. But after that we got a fun sleepover and I just wanted to be part! That cake drop thing? I wish I had known about that when I was a kid, I am sure my friends would have loved that! Haha, I can already imagine the laughs we would have as we do it and the laughs when the cake collapses. My friends and I could get really giggly and sometimes just laugh so long. XD And then it is ghost stories, which of course have mostly to do with the fears cats have. Nothing was really scary for me then. I know, most people would probably be terrified of big mice? But I would just love it. More to hug! Whoo.
What happens next, I could definitely understand the fear/excitement the kittens had. I would have been the same if it was my friend! I did love how it all ended, and no I am not telling you, just that I am very happy with the direction the author took it, it made me laugh and smile.
I was a bit confused early on, we can see Alycat and her friends sitting around a fire, but a few pages later this is said: “Let’s tell ghost stories in the tent until the campfire is ready,” said Phoebe.” But wait? What is that fire then? The not-so-campfire? Help?
Oh, I always love a bonus extra, and in this one we get a what to bring on a sleepover! From pillows to books to socks~ Very important, though I would like to add one more thing, snacks! I know the host has snacks, but there is never enough snacks. XD And I really had fun reading the author’s note, I am happy to read on why there are no dogs or humans in the story/why the girls treated dogs like fictional. That explains!
The art was really fun and I love the style. The cats are really drawn nicely, sometimes humanizing (is that the word) animals doesn’t work, but in this one it does!
All in all, I had oodles of fun reading this one and I definitely want to check out more Alycat books~ I would recommend this book!
