Agatha Raymond Sherlock & Me #1 Murder at the Zoo M. Glenda Rosen, Murder, Zoo, Mystery, LionsA body is tossed into the lion’s habitat at the zoo where Miranda Scott is the senior vet. She and Detective Bryan Anderson join forces to unravel that mystery and several more murders. A fan since childhood of Agatha Christie, Raymond Chandler, and Sherlock Holmes they seem to live in her head frequently telling her what to do…and not do. Murders, family, deceit, revenge and a gangster father and godfather often get in the way of a fine romance between Miranda and the Detective.

Lies will bring you down.

Miranda’s father had talked to her about lies and lying twenty years ago when she was telling the lies many teenagers think they can get away with, like going out late at night to meet her high school sweetheart.

“Where were you?” Her father asked.

“I was here.”

“Really. Sure didn’t see you anywhere in the house. Your dog was looking for you too.”

“Okay, I went out to meet Jimmy.”

“Well, I hope it was worth it. Remember what I told you about lying. It sneaks into your soul and hurts your self-respect.”

“Dad, now I told you the truth. Okay?”

“Of course it’s okay. And of course you’re grounded for the next two weeks.”

What was amazing to Miranda about it was he said he with a huge smile.

Now, twenty years later, she was remembering those conversations and wondering about his truths. He had many meetings in their home with some strange characters, a few who had odd nicknames. Sometimes she overheard glimpses of their conversations and wondered how legal their business activities were.

She felt like she was lying a lot lately. She lied to her mother. She did tell Emma about Madrid. She lied to Dennis about how she felt about him. She lied to Bryan about Joseph and Fish…and, of course, about those damn tattoos.

“They always say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree,” said Agatha.

Too many thoughts were swirling in her head. She was getting ready to go to another emergency, this time at the Southwest Animal Rescue and Retirement Center. A rancher’s horse had been badly injured.

The Center’s Director had called and literally pleaded, “Miranda, please can you get here soon? We have a horse in terrible pain and the rancher is devastated. It was an accident. He backed into his horse with a tractor. He didn’t realize she was behind him.”

“Give me an hour.” It was four days since the first body was found at the Zoo. There was an ongoing police investigation but no one at the Zoo was being told what was happening with it.
