Good Morning all!
A chilly but happy welcome to the Blog Tour for Victoria James and the Mysterious Case of the Chilly Willies by Elizabeth Burns! I am so happy I can be part of this tour + that I could review the book, which was a delight!
For today’s post I got a giveaway (you can win $10 dollar gift card for Amazon/BN), a 4 starred review, an excerpt, and book + author information!
Let’s get started!
I received this book from the publisher/Goddess Blog Tour in exchange of an honest review.
I just had to review this book! It sounded like such a fun book and I was curious what the Chilly Willies are and if there was a cure for it! And I have to say this was an oodles full of fun book!
Meet Victoria James, a nine-year old girl who was fine when going to school.. but on the way suddenly got cold. Now I can hear my readers say, what is so bad about that? The cover shows it is autumn/fall so of course it will be a bit colder outside! Oh no, dear readers. This is something else entirely. Victoria is not just cold, she is SHIVERING. She is SHAKING. She is NOT getting warm. Scarves? Coats? Not enough to stop it! And then we learn the name of what it is that Victoria has. Namely the Chilly Willies. A terrifying, OK, maybe not that dramatic, but something that makes the person SO COLD that nothing seems to help! For real! I never heard of it, but I definitely never want it! Stay away with it!
Throughout this wonderful picture book we see Victoria get help from friends but later also others in school (love how people are getting quite invested) in getting over the Chilly Willies. From doing jumping jacks (urgh) to going to the principal to see if his cure (something disgusting) will work out! I was definitely hoping to see if something helped and at times I just wanted to give Victoria a big big hug because these Chilly Willies? No fun at all!
The ending was a sweet one and I can see why that may be the perfect thing for the Chilly Willies! It made me smile!
The illustrations in this book were just so fun and colourful, I love the style!
All in all, I do hope that there are more Victoria James books coming because I would like to see more of her! I would recommend this fun book to everyone!
About the author:
After being suddenly overcome by a mysterious case of the Chilly Willies, nine-year-old Victoria James navigates her way through a day as a fourth grader at Riverview Elementary School. With the help of her best friend Janie Finch, an oversized sweater, jumping jacks, and a spicy pickle sandwich, Victoria James just might defeat the Chilly Willes.

Always a storyteller, Elizabeth Burns is pleased to share her love of wonder and magic through her writing. Growing up in the heart of British Columbia, there was always plenty of adventure to fill the imagination. Elizabeth likes to spend her time with her many furry companions, thinking up stories to make you giggle. Snuggle in, dear friends, and enjoy!
“Okay,” said Mrs. James, “give me a kiss and I will see you when you get home from school.”
Mrs. Bridges passed Mrs. James in the doorway as she left for work.
“Hello, girls!” exclaimed Mrs. Bridges. (Mrs. Bridges was always much too loud in the mornings.)
“Hello,” replied Victoria as she cleared her plate from the table. “Um, I have to go and get my school things together,” she said.
Victoria thought it best to avoid Mrs. Bridges until it was time to leave for school. She packed her school bag, grabbed her lunch from the fridge and shouted a quick “See you!” to Mrs. Bridges and Rebecca from the hallway as she headed out the door.
