Review for Only in New York

Only in New York Heather Alexander , Joseph Moffat-Peña, New York, Travel, Two kids standing in Time's New Square, Travel, Non-Fiction, Children's BooksI received this book from Netgalley/publisher in exchange of an honest review.

After the fab books of Only in America (3.5 stars), Only in California (4.5 stars), and Only in Texas (4.5 stars), I just HAD to get this book when I saw it on Netgalley! I love that more books are written, hopefully I am able to read all the books as there are still plenty of states left!

After all, I am not able to visit the US ever, or well, I should say I would love to visit but given how the country is towards LGBT, how much violence/gun stuff, and other things there are? I will just stick to books if I want to travel the US. Haha. So these books are a treasure!

In this book we travel along the state of New York. Going from Niagara Falls to Thousand Islands to NY City and ending at Long Island! I was very eager to get this journey started, I hadn’t realised that Niagara Falls is in the state of New York, plus I was very curious about The Finger Lakes (the what now?). Can you imagine, the first few pages and I am already learning new things! Love it! Let’s get this journey started~ I loved that for the city of New York we first got an overview and then some postcards featuring some parts of it, like Staten Island. Fun! And from that moment we travel all across the state seeing some gorgeous scenes and some wonderful moments and I wish I could just step in the book and be part of it. I loved how each new part is a two-page spread filled with all sorts of fun mini-facts about it.

I loved that, just like the others, next to facts about certain places/parts we also get special pages featuring things like sports, museums, or food! I always keep looking forward to those as they have some really fun facts! Many I don’t know!

Some facts I learned: The Capital of NY is not NY but Albany. That when a Mets player hits a home run a sculpture of an apple pops up. And I would love to see The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze, 7000 pumpkins! Glowing! Need! And hello a book village in Hobart? Sign me up! Plus, all that food. I just ate lunch 2 hours ago but there goes my stomach, rumbling for a slice, or maybe some chicken french? Or maybe tomato pie? Or no no, hotdogs? Haha, so many choices! YUM! Also a special Dog Parade for HW in October in NYC? I want to see that. And there is a Fairy Trail in Rochester! There is even a Golden Snowball Award for the snowiest upstate city! And there were many other facts that I loved and I learned a lot of new things~

And of course, like the previous books this book is beautifully illustrated with illustrations everywhere. From big two-page spreads to smaller illustrations on other pages. Fun!

All in all, I loved this book and I had oh so much fun reading it! I cannot wait to see what is next in the series. Recommended to all!
