Review for Steve Irwin
I received this book from Edelweiss/the publisher in exchange of an honest review.
My mom and I were big fans of Steve Irwin and loved to watch his show. Haha, well, my mom was totally a fan. She was a superfan. So I just couldn’t resist this book in the amazing fun series (Little People Big Dreams) when I spotted it on Edelweiss. I had to figure out how to download it, because I haven’t used Edelweiss that much, I prefer Netgalley in its ease. But I did it, and then in August I had a fun time reading this one!
In this one we get to know all about Steve Irwin, or well, most of it. Haha, you cannot cram it all in a short book of course, but the main things are there. How he grew up with parents who love to save animals (even using their own camper/home to do so) and how he went on to do the same along with his adorable dog Sui. I loved seeing him grow up and get more into saving animals, helping out crocs, finding his wife and starting a family who also wanted to help out with his quest/dream. It was a very inspiring and sweet read and I really loved it. I knew all of the things already, but see them back in such a fun illustration style was a lot of fun. The illustrator really captured Steve Irwin as he was.
Bonus points to the fun cover!
The ending was a bit unexpected, I had expected at least a page or so about his death and what happens afterwards. I am guessing that in the empty space with the time line that is mentioned, but I think it is good to also mention that as an ending to the book, not everyone may read the timeline/care about that.
I would definitely recommend this book to all!
