Review for Santa Jaws

Santa Jaws by Mark Sperring and Sophie Corrigan, Blue cover with santa jaws on it, picture book, cute, funIt is time for Christmas down in the sea, but what is that? It is not Santa Claus… but Santa Jaws??

I just couldn’t resist this fun looking Christmas book when I spotted it! Look at it! A shark in a red suit, wearing a beard, and dressed as Santa Claus? Yes!!

In this one we meet two sea creatures. The first is a shark named Shelly, she has a big plans for this Christmas. Big dreams! Her plan? To bring yuletide joy and happiness. But there is one problem, which you may just have seen in the cover/title + that I said the word shark. Yep, she is a shark. And that means that quite a few sea creatures are terrified of her. Which is both sad, but also very logical after all. She is dedicated though and I loved that she had a suit, a sign, and even her home ready to spread cheer. I was just hoping her plan would work.

Next up we meet Sid, a squid who LOVES festivities, and has all sorts of dreams (good luck with te snow there buddy, good luck). He is the first one to enter Shelly’s grotto of Christmas cheer and also the first to believe in her. Well, after a silly Red-Riding-Hood-esque sequence + some fear. I just loved that Sid decided to trust Shelly and give her a chance. I loved that he had such big dreams and that he was still hoping to complete them (again, lose the dream of a snowman).

I loved what happens next in the book and it gave me all the holly jolly cheer that I can tell you!

The illustrations were oh so much fun and I just loved seeing Christmas in the deep blue sea!

All in all, a delightful picture book perfect for the Christmas days to come, something different than just reindeer, normal Santas, and snow.
