I received this book from the author in exchange of an honest review.

I just had to say YES when I got the mail from the author if I wanted to read their book. Kangaroos? Adventure? Taekwondo? Yes, yes!

In this wonderful book we meet three kangaroos, Brianna, Jackson, and George. They are not just any kangaroos though, they are Taekwondo masters! At the moment we meet them they are practicing their awesome kicks, jumps, and other skills. But what is this? We quickly dive into an exciting adventure when they hear a cry for help! And I was 100% ready for it! I was curious to see how our trio of kangaroos would rescue this little joey and if they would make it (yes, I know it is a children’s book, but I have seen some with a twist, haha). I loved seeing them work together and use each of their skills + teamwork to get where they needed to go. They needed to be creative at times, sometimes things didn’t go according to what they had planned and it was just a lot of fun to see them figure out what to do next. I was definitely rooting for them and the little joey! It was exciting, adventurous, and made me smile throughout it all. These kangaroos kick some butt (or in this case some big rocks, haha).

The ending was positive and one that made me smile even more. It was a great ending to a fun adventurous story. I loved that they shared what they learned, saw that their bonds are now stronger, and more.

While the story was absolutely 100% fun, I wasn’t too sure about the illustrations, mainly thanks to the time we live in now. With AI being more and more prevalent in many places, and the backgrounds seemed very much like the ones I see in picture books that are 100% AI (not that I read them, but I have gotten review requests + I browse Amazon). In the end I can say that it isn’t AI, the author and I mailed back and forth and he had proof/evidence that it is 100% done by a human being. Thank you again to the author for that!

Other than the is it AI or not (definitely not, as confirmed) there were character positions that were just odd, like they seemed to stand in weird spots that didn’t seem logical, like with the joey they had to rescue who just seemed to hang in mid-air between the rocks. Or when Brianna had the little joey in her pouch but the next scene he was with the boys again and she was kicking a rock, um, how?

There were also good things, I did like the backgrounds, yes they seemed AI but they were still pretty, and now I know that a real human drew all of this, I like the backgrounds even more. I love the character designs and that one of the Taekwonderoos was a girl and girly but not overly so. I have seen some books go either for totally not girly or super girly and here it was balanced. Kick-ass and cute. There were some fun and adventurous scenes. And those last scenes of the books were very nicely done.

Despite some things regarding the illustrations (which for most were solved thanks to the author), I would recommend this book to everyone. It was a lot of fun to read and I loved the adventures the characters had and how kind and brave they were. I definitely hope that this author will be writing more Taekwonderoos stories because I would love more!
