Review for Gachiakuta Vol. 1

Gachiakuta vol 1 by Kei Urana, Boy on the cover ready to fight, manga, action, fantasy, sci-fiI received this book from Netgalley/the publisher in exchange of an honest review.

When I saw some new manga on Netgalley I was pulled towards this one. That cover looked so cool and I loved the blurb. I could definitely use a more action-packed manga in my life.

Meet Rudo. He lives in the slumps and isn’t having the best life. He gets bullied/shunned because his father was a murderer/killer (or well, so they say but given everything in this manga I do have some doubts/questions about that). He patches up garbage from the rich side, yes, garbage. But if you see how these rich people treat their items you will find out quickly that for the rich people trash means that an item has a little bit of damage, like the bunny plush that was thrown away because it had a tear. Yes. You can imagine there is “garbage” everywhere. I loved that Rudo would go over to the richer side and steal garbage. And he wasn’t just searching for items to fix, but he himself also was taking very well care with his own items. I really liked Rudo from the start. I was rooting for him to get a happier life. Sadly, I knew that wouldn’t happen any time soon.

Because quite soon things go wrong and Rudo is send over the cliff of the slums down below. A place no one ever comes back from. And well given the twist we get + what we see wandering and stalking these grounds + how Rudo’s kind is treated there it is no wonder that no one comes out alive. I was already invested in the story but with this new world + the revelations of Rudo’s world + some kick-ass scenes? I was even more invested and I was on the edge of my seat reading. It was just so cool and I love seeing various powers come to play all working with the mechanic of if you have loved your items enough they will get a soul. Which made me think of items in my home and wonder about what powers they would have given me if I was in this world.

I am really impressed with this first volume + I also love the art in this one, it really fits the story and I love how dynamic it is. The action scenes really come to life.

I am quite invested in this story, especially after that cliffhanger, so yes, this girl will keep on reading! I need to know more about this world, about the place our MC came from, and what kind of cool things people can do with beloved items! I would recommend it if you are looking for an action-packed manga.
