Review for Something Wicked

Something Wicked by Lily Morton, Red cover with a guy looking at you, lgbt, psychic, romance, ghosts, murderI received this book from the publisher/Gay Romance Reviews Tours in exchange of an honest review.

The newest book and BOY I was freaking hyped when I saw the tweet from the author about the book! I was already hoping that this year would bring a new book in this or the Arcana series. It is just a fantastic blend of romance/sexy times x ghosts and action.

In this book things start slow but soon it gets more and more scary as we find out a serial killer is on the loose and is killing people left and right. Oh, and if you thought that was bad. Wait until you hear the details about what he does to them and how he leaves them (like little broken gifts). And the worst thing? After Blue gets involved with the police investigation the killer turns to him! There are some quieter moments but for most this book was a ride in figuring out who the killer was (which was just epically done, I applaud you author for that because so many red herrings and vague hints) + if Levi and Black and people they know would be safe + will a certain place ever be safe again?! And it isn’t just killing, but Blue also discovers new powers, he meets a family member (though next time please without the bleeding) and sees various ghosts that either need help or are there to traumatise the reader (and well, Blue as well), there are other mysteries and I loved seeing how they tied in together. It was so well written and at times I was terrified. Especially when Blue used his new powers and visited that cellar again. Not spoiling anything, but dang, that cellar has brought some new nightmares, thanks! Plus, the ending, holy wow, that was a ROLLERCOASTER. The last part of the book? I couldn’t stop reading, I just HAD to know how this would continue.

I also loved seeing Levi and Black together, discuss their future, their worries. These two truly TALK to each other and it is so refreshing. Yes, Blue does some dumb things but let’s just say that Levi can be quite terrifying, haha. I love that despite everything Levi and Blue’s love is still strong. I mean, not everyone would be able to handle all the things that happen here, but if anything they come out stronger. And there is something at the end that just had me squealing SO SO MUCH. I won’t spoil it but, OH YESSSSSSS.

I also loved seeing various other characters from earlier books, especially Jem and Will. Oh my precious other couple! I need more of them! Plus, I loved seeing Will and Blue together as well, see them be best friends and help each other out. And I read that Jem has had some camera work done with ghost busters? Is there a story there? Can we get that? Please?

Putting this in the spoiler tags I was just chuckling madly and going oh fuckity fuck when the killer thought he had cornered Blue and Levi, but he hadn’t counted on a certain house ghost to kick his butt, oh boy oh boy.

While I did like the sex scenes, loved that tension, loved the love and lust between our two characters and how that never wavered even when things got scary, at times it just felt a bit not fitting at the moment they happened. Or it felt like too much. Too many details.

I was NOT a fan of Rhys continuously popping up and very rudely making moves on Levi. HELLO, he is TAKEN. He has a boyfriend. He is living together with someone. FUCK off. I really hate people who try to get in between a relationship. I just didn’t get why Rhys had to be back. For all I care, he could fuck off. His comments towards Blue were so harmful and rude, and I didn’t blame Blue for biting back.

And Baldwin, boo, I get you have your issues, but don’t act so unprofessional. If you cannot hold in your comments then stop being a police guy.

All in all though, this was a good book in the series, lots of tension, some scary moments, some sweet moments, new and old ghosts, great characters, and more. I am just hoping for more Blue and Black and also more of the Arcana series!
