Review for Never Let Go, Vol.1

Never Let Go vol 1 by Saki Sakimoto, Two guys hugging, omegaverse, romance, lgbt, mangaI received this manga from TokyoPop in exchange of an honest review.

OMG, the start was a bit rough (some scenes felt a bit random), but I can just tell you that I LOVE this one so much. Before I start with my review I would like to state trigger warnings for sexual assault (several pages) and incest (not that long).

I do love books featuring beta/alpha/omega, aka the omegaverse, so I was excited when I got the reviewer mail from TokyoPop and this was on it. I was curious how it was going to work, I have read a lot of good stuff, but also several iffy ones. I can say that after reading this that there were some issues (like the incest, the way Miyabi’s dad and brother treated him next to that, and then that sexual assault + him being harassed), but that there were also a lot of good parts.

I really loved our Alpha, Haruto. He is 100% an alpha as you can clearly see with how he walks through life, how people treat him with both fear, awe, and respect. But he is also a sweetheart. He knows that his alpha pheromones are messing with Miyabi who is an omega, but he tries his best to help him out. Plus, though he is also affected, he sticks his guns and never makes a bad move unless Miyabi agrees with it. And I was just loving it, because you can see that it isn’t always the easiest, but he manages. He tries to help Miyabi when things get hairy (or horny as it is his heat time). He cooks meals for him (thanks to his mom who gives him cooking lessons). Tries to find better medicines to suppress things better, gives him the opportunity of better doctors if that needs to be. He showers him with love and kindness and hugs. I just love that he never gave up on Miyabi, he really fought for him (later on even for reals). And I loved all he planned for Miyabi’s birthday!

Miyabi, oh, boy, I just wanted to give him a hug. I could understand that he was acting like such a smug bitch for several bits of the book. If the alternative is that people see you as an omega and thus treat you like shit? Not to mention, Miyabi has been through a lot of shit. I mean, his father disowned/kicked him out of his house. His brother sexually assaulted him (and probably not one time given how traumatised Miyabi is). I would also try to hide what I was in every possible way, and if being smug is the way? Go for it. I felt for Miyabi, I could understand why he did the things he did and how it took a long long time before he could trust Haruto. How even when showered with love he expected the worst. I loved seeing him get more comfortable around Haruto and see him grow more healthy, open up more to Haruto. And see him fall in love slowly bit by bit.

The love between these two? You are just rooting for these two to get in a relationship, seriously. They are just perfect together and I was just hoping that Miyabi would open some doors in his walls and let Haruto in. I was just squeeing all the way, especially the later parts when they plan dates and see each other more. And the latter parts where everything just clicked together? I was crying, cheering, YASSSsing all the way.

What I didn’t expect is, that the sex scenes were not censored. OK, the penises looked a bit odd at times, but for most there was no light bar or mist or whatever else manga and anime uses to not show certain things. I am so used to light bars that I was like, wait, that is a penis. XD

Oh, and this girl LOVES bonus scenes and extras at the end of stories so YAS!

The art was really pretty and I like the style.

All in all, even with some iffyness this was one manga that I am very glad I read! It was a ride for sure with a couple you want to root for. I am curious to see what is next for this couple!
