Review for Fangirl Down

Fangirl Down by Tessa Bailey, Green cover with a girl on the back of a guy, golf, romanceA book about golf, about finding hope and light again, about romance, and more!

I am not a big fan of golf. Yes, I like mini golf, but that is it. But I just couldn’t resist this book, several other book bloggers also mentioned in reviews they weren’t golf types but loved this book, so that got me over the line on getting this book!

And boy, I am so happy I did. Yes. There is golf. But it was fun to read/interesting as well + there were other elements as well. Like the romance that is sparking between Wells and Josephine. How it started as fangirl x athlete but how it went beyond that. How we see that Wells starts coming to life again after years of feeling zero.

Wells wasn’t always the easiest to read, especially in the beginning when he was just so darn grumpy and angry. But as the story continued I just loved seeing him getting happier. See the light come back to him. And I loved how he was there for Josephine. Not in a helicopter protective mode, but taking care of her in little ways that just made me smile. I loved that he slowly got better at golf again, slowly finding the love for that again. And so as the story went on I started appreciating him more and more. Yes, he still had some issues, but by the end he is in such a much better place and I was just grinning in happiness.

Josephine was so much fun! I love that she loves golf, that she is dedicated to keeping the store in her family, I loved how despite everything she stuck with Wells and tried to help him out, I loved how strong she was and how dedicated she was to making her own decisions. Because you see, Josephine has diabetes. And everyone has pampered her, worried over her, and she is done with that. I love seeing her be herself, work things out, and yes, she makes some bad decisions but she tries to find her own solutions and I love it. I also love seeing her go from fangirl and butt connoisseur to falling head over heels for Wells. Oh, and I loved that she kept going to his competitions in the beginning of the book and how it all came together in the end (yes, I am keeping it vague).

Bonus points to a few things. One the competitions were fun to read. I fully agreed on Josephine and her love for baths, LORD, if I had those baths she had I would also moan and make noises, haha. I loved the banter between Wells and Josephine and you really want to root for them to make this work. I loved seeing how the Golden Tee and I would love to visit it (can we teleport to books now). The parents (Josephine’s) were just A-plus, I really love them and I love how Wells also had his conversations with him (so cute). Oh, and I definitely cannot wait for the next book because Tallulah was such a fun character (yes, there are only a few scenes but I like her) and I am curious to see how it will end up for her with that athlete! Oh, and the ending? Perfection! So cute, so fun, and I love we get an epilogue. And lastly? The cover!

But the sex scenes just didn’t work for me that much. It was just too much/too rough. And I am always really put-off when someone just squirts their you know what all over a woman’s breast. EWW. No. Not to mention that ass eating scene in the later part, I see it often in M/M books and I am still not sure how I feel about it there, but seeing a girl go full on someone’s ass? Girl, I know you like that ass.. but please no. Hard pass.

I also wasn’t such a fan of how possessive Wells got over Josephine. We get it. She saved you. She made you love and feel and all that again. But no need to act bitchy when someone calls her honey (in just a sweet non-sexual/non-romantic way). No need to go haywire when she is checking out the green in the early morning. No need to get so darn jealous when she hangs out with someone who is a guy. No need to yeet a camera in the lake when someone asks a personal question about her. No need to white knight her. No sirree. That is just no.

But all in all, if you are looking for a cute, fun and funny, sexy book, be sure to check it out. Don’t be afraid of the golf! It is actually fun. And that comes from a girl who finds golf generally boring. Well, unless I play it in video games, haha.
