Review: Don’t Feed the Coos!

Don't Feed the Coos! by Jonathan Stutzman, Heather Fox, Pigeons and a shocked kid, picture bookWhatever you do… don’t feed the COOOSSSSS! You are warned!

Back in April I did a Top 10 Tuesday featuring pigeons! I also added this book as it looked absolutely so much fun! And then at the end of April (yes, I know, by the time this one is up it is June) I decided to read the book! And it was a hilarious hoot!

I remember the warnings of not feeding coos. I mean, they are indeed cute and adorable… but I knew that if you spy one or maybe three, there is bound to be many more lurking on rooftops and other high places. That one coo? Or maybe those 3 coos? They are just the ground patrol. They are here to lure you in. Though, in real life, you won’t get stalked by these coos. In real life you may get glomped by a flight of pigeons, however in this one? Oh, you are stuck with pigeons. They will follow you around EVERYWHERE. And I was just laughing my butt off seeing the coos appear everywhere this little kid went, they even participated in things like games or orchestra. But if you think that being stalked is the worst thing and that you can definitely handle that (I wonder if anyone can, haha), be warned of the coos poos. Yes. Poos. Poos everywhere. EEEWW! I had totally forgotten those poos because I was just laughing so hard at the chaos of the book, the chaos of them following you everywhere.

What happens next, because of course the MC will try to do something, made me laugh even more. I had NOT expected it to go that way. And the ending? That made me chuckle as well, as it reminded me, maybe not the right way, of how things go in curses and horror movies. I won’t tell you, but I am sure those who like those two things will know what I am talking about when they read this hilarious over the top book.

The illustrations were just so much fun and I especially loved how the coos were drawn. So cute! And I loved the random coo text bubbles above some of the pigeons. The illustrations made this book even funnier.

All in all, if you like pigeons, if you like chaos, if you want to know what to do now that you are being haunted by a flight of coos, be sure to read this book! I would HIGHLY recommend it.
