Review: Dad and the Recycling-Bin Roller Coaster

Dad and the Recycling-Bin Roller Coaster Taylor Calmus , Eda Kaban, Parenting, Children's Books, Picture BookWhat happens when mom goes out to buy more decorations for the house and dad is left with his three kids? Tons of fun inventions including a big rollercoaster!

I really love Dude Dad’s videos and also liked his A Dude’s Guide to Baby Size book! So I was excited to read this book by him! Or well, I found out that on Youtube he was reading the book out loud, and I just couldn’t resist. His own book read out loud by him? YAS!

In this one we meet a dad who is looking forward to a whole afternoon of kids and dad fun now that mum is out buying decorations (yes, that will take all afternoon, haha). He has some great recycling plans, but will his kids like them? I loved seeing dad try all sorts of fun things, but I felt for him because the kids didn’t want to participate no matter the invention, which at first I didn’t get, but then when things get really sad we learn why! And I was just awww-ing because that was so sweet! These kids had some good reasons not to be part of dad’s inventions, at least not right away. I loved how dad and the kids together made something fun. Something for all of them! Yes, even mom (who definitely made that shopping trip worthwhile, haha). This book really made me smile so much! And hearing it read-out-loud by Taylor himself? That made it perfect!

The translations to what the baby meant with his baby language? I was just laughing so hard.

I loved the inventions! Like how he changed the recycling bin into a chariot! Yup, all you need is a golf motor and bicycle tires + a fence-picket horse! Or the waterslide scooter. Or Gumball time machine! I wish I could build all of those, but alas!

The illustrations were just so much and I love the style. It was so cute and colourful.

All in all, if you love Dude Dad and/or want a very cute and fun book about inventions and a dad x kids bonding afternoon, be sure to check it out!
