Review: Teddy vs. the Slimy Evil
I received this book from Edelweiss in exchange of an honest review.
SO HYPED! I just LOVED the first book and so when I saw this newest book? You don’t know how fast I clicked on the download button, haha.
π Seeing Teddy talk to himself was wonderfully done. We see little illustrations of him pop up with a thought or two (often with an attitude of heck no and run away).
π The illustrations were fabulous once again!! I love the style and the way the illustrator brings the monsters totally to life. I seriously hope to NEVER see a dog that big, haha. The illustrator is so good in bringing the scary scenes and making them just a lot more spookier/scarier.
π While Teddy was still trying to get away at times, I did love how he did try his best to also help out. When his little cousin is in trouble he does his best to help out! Teddy is slowly getting better about things and I was just so proud of him. I also loved that, despite not being a total fan of his little cousin, you could clearly see that he liked him. It was so sweet how Teddy took time to be with Milton and also tried to help him out with his hearing equipment (which Milton DEFINITELY didn’t want).
π I loved that next to the whole spooky things going on and urban legends happening we also got some serious parts. Teddy still trying to convince his parents to leave. Milton appearing and what that brings. Milton and Martin and their family situation.
π New characters! Milton turned out to be OK, yes he was a bit annoying at times but I could forgive him for most. While I don’t have hearing aids, I can just imagine that being that small/young and having to wear them is no fun. Not to mention there is the situation with Duggy. I would also abandon those hearing aids so fast. π Then there is Martin, cool Martin who could really use some help with things. And my absolutely favourite? Candice! The boss at the Nerd’s Roost! And totally epic. I am so curious about this woman and all that she really knows. She helps out the group a fair amount of times and I feel there is something big about her and I NEED TO KNOW! I hope that in the next books we learn more about her. I wouldn’t mind a backstory with her.
π The monsters in this book! Not just the big baddy, aka the slimy evil. Who is quite creepy and well you don’t want to get close to it. Sadly, our team has to get close. To save a friend and later a family member. I am also glad that the author made this one quite dark, I mean, given what Duggy went through and also how that ended for him. I loved finding out about the monster’s weakness and see our team of friends (and family) try to save their town.
We also have another monster + the mention of more lurking. That dog though? Holy. That is one big bad dog! I don’t want to meet that one either day or night, haha.
π The fact there is so much more lore about this town and I am curious how many people know about things. The kids are learning more and more with each adventure. There is Candice who definitely knows things. There is a certain other person who went missing. And there is Teddy’s dad who I am sure knows more than he shows because the way he reacts to what his son tells him.
π The hamsters are BACK!!! YESS! I just loved it, though I had some trust issues from the start, haha. I did love that they were still helping out Heather in many different ways, which was cute, but maybe also terrifying for Heather who didn’t know they were doing that, haha.
π There were some very very exciting moments, including some chases that had me on the edge of my seat!
π The book is just all around so much fun that I read this one in one go. I just couldn’t stop reading until I finished it. The author really has a fabulous writing style.
All in all! I would highly recommend this book to all. Looking for a spooky adventurous read with tons of lore to be explored and great characters? Be sure to check out this book (and the previous one). And me? I am waiting eagerly for the next books!
