Review: Maddi’s Fridge

Review: Maddi’s Fridge

Maddi's Fridge by Lois Brandt, Vin Vogel, Two girls standing in front of a fridge in a kitchenTwo girls who are friends, one of them has a fridge full, but what if your friend’s fridge is empty?

I was looking for something cute/fun to read when I came across this one! It sounded really sweet, but also sad! I was curious if Sofia would keep her promise or if she told someone and got help.

In this adorable sweet picture book we meet two friends, Sofia and Maddie. They are bestest of friends and they have a lot of fun after school going to the playground nearby. One day Sofia finds out a secret from Maddi. Maddi doesn’t have a lot of food. Well, a lot, she has nothing. Yes, some bread. Some milk. That is it. I seriously wanted to step in at this point and just hand her all the delicious cake I made in the weekend. I could understand that she had Sofia promise to keep quiet, I can imagine that she doesn’t want anyone to know. I liked seeing Sofia think about things and also try to not break the promise but still help out. She finds out that some things shouldn’t be brought along and some things work. It was just so cute to see Sofia do her best + I love that this also opened Sofia’s eyes. Not everyone has a full fridge. Not everyone has a good meal in the evening.

The ending? Well, I loved that! I could imagine Sofia doing that and I am happy how that person reacted and what happens next. That just made smile so much. Plus, I love how this only strengthened the friendship between the two. It was a bit of worry for me, but I shouldn’t have worried!

Oh, and I loved the little bits between the food problem which featured Sofia trying to master the climbing wall. Maddi is a pro at it and climbs up, but we see that Sofia struggles with it. It was really fun seeing Maddi help out Sofia. By cheering, holding out her hand, showing her it was all possible.

The illustrations were also very fun! I like the style!

I would highly recommend this book to everyone. It was so good, it made me sad and happy.
