Favourite activity/things to do during Halloween.
In theory, I love Halloween. It’s the height of spooky season. Ghosts and ghouls roaming the streets. Fake spiderwebs, complete with giant spiders, hang from houses. I should be out enjoying it, but I’m also something of an introvert, and that splurge in social activity that is Halloween, has always made me a bit nervous. I’m not saying I’m some sort of recluse, I do go out and enjoy the day, but I usually have to force myself to.
The obvious answer though would be Halloween parties. A house full of people in full costume, drinking, having fun, is always a riot. I have many fond memories of Halloween parties. But in recent times, my Halloweens have been centered around my kids. I love going out trick-o-treating with them! It’s usually a cold, somewhat rainy night, so that’s not fun, but the weather somehow adds to the experience. Also, and I take this next part very seriously, there is a candy tax. I get to go through their haul (and my kids are very dedicated in obtaining as much candy as they can get) and pick out five or six things items from each of them.
One more thing I enjoy every year when Halloween approaches are the events. Being a horror writer, I get invited to various shows, events, and signings throughout the year, but that ramps up considerably during spooky season. Despite my claims of being an introvert at the beginning of this, the one thing that can transform me into a social butterfly is a good event. I love them!
