Review: An Education in Malice
“I kept my tastes quiet, kept them private, feeding them only rarely and when I was sure I wouldn’t get caught. I often felt like a wolf wearing the skin of a girl, balancing on two legs and hoping no one would notice.”
After several tries (read this book in June), here is my definitive review for this book. Haha. I kept going back and forth if I wanted to write it, but in the end I just had to write it. So, sorry if it is a bit chaotic, but I tried my best, haha.
😍 Let’s start with the cover! I just ADORE the cover. It is so pretty!
😍 I loved that we didn’t just get to see Laura’s POV, but also Camilla’s! OK, I have to say that, especially at first, that Camilla was the hardest to read. Laura though? I instantly liked her and how she was. Seeing her figure out college, her feelings, the fact she is LGBT and how that makes her feel. And throughout the story she becomes even better, stronger. Camilla, as the story weaved on also got better and I could see more of her reasons of why she acted the way she did. I could at points start to understand why she acted like this.
😍 OK, the enemies to lovers didn’t always work for me, but for most I just LOVED the chemistry that Laura and Camilla had and was definitely looking forward to, especially Camilla, to drop the act and just get kissing haha. And when they kiss, LORD, that fire. PHEW, it was so hot. Especially helped by how S.T. Gibson wrote them.
😍 Ms. De Lafontaine, well, OK, as we find out more about her. At first I was a bit hesitant about her given how she acts around the class and with Camilla, but as the story weaved on, she just like Camilla became quite likeable and I became more interested about her and what made her tick. I loved reading about her when she was younger, before she was turned, about her romance and how far she went to find her lover again and all she wanted to do to be with her again.
😍 How it at first all seemed to be just mostly about two girls and some vampire stuff and college, but how it quickly turned into more vampires, more blood, some murder, and some scary stuff happening. The pacing was just a-plus and the author really managed to weave an engaging story.
😍 Seeing how that person handled being a vampire. Yes, I am not telling you who, haha. But it was a nice extra to the whole book and it added more tension, made emotions heat up even more.
😍 The last part, the decisions made there, the things said there, and definitely all that you can imagine will happen next. OK, sure, the decisions felt a bit hasty, but on the other hand I could understand.
😍 Reading about college, about making friends, discovering yourself, the literature class. I just wish I could step inside the story so many times and be part of it all.
🤔 Yes, there were some times that the story didn’t fully grab me. Sometimes I just flew through it and the pages flew by, and other times it took me days to read this one further.
All in all, I really loved this book and I am so happy that I read this one. It was exciting! This book would definitely be perfect for this season, so be sure to check it out.
