Review: First Friends: Shapes + Numbers
I received this book from Edelweiss in exchange of an honest review.
I thought it would be more fun to put these two books together as they are about the same group of kids in a kindergarten. One is about numbers and we are going to count so much, and the other is all about the shapes the kids see in their daily life and figuring out what shapes there are.
In this first book (Numbers) we learn all about numbers in a very fun playful way. We start with the beginning of the day which starts with a goodbye kiss and a hug hello then later we see the kids having fun at the sandpit and scoop scoop scoop! And we are going outside with the kids! It was just so much fun to read and I adored the way the text was written (very playful) and illustrations were a delight. I also love that we get to see a whole day in these kids lives and see what they get up to at the kindergarten.
In the second book (Shapes) we get another day at the kindergarten and this time the kids have fun with shapes! We see them build with blocks, we see them make art and fill in shapes/make shapes, the kids have to clean up (because chaos happens), and it was just so much fun! I love the illustrations in this one as there are so MANY shapes to discover, it was just so much fun.
Each book also has something fun at the end! In the number one you have to find certain objects and also there we do counting. You have to find 5 yellow blocks for instance. And in the shapes book we have to find shapes! Because there were plenty of those around! I really love it when books add something bonus to things allowing you to dive back into the story again and find new things along the way.
Oh, and I love that one of the kids in the kindergarten has a hearing aid! You don’t often see that but it is so important to add! So great job!
All in all, I would recommend these books highly. They are just so much fun and I enjoyed them greatly. This will be a great read for little kids learning shapes and numbers, they will have so much fun~
