Review: Gal no Haigo ni Rei ga Iru/There is a Ghost Behind the Gal, Vol.1

There's a ghost behind the gyaru #1 by Hashimoto KuraraWhat if your best friend has a ghost behind her? And what if that ghost just wants to be friends?

In this hilarious manga we mostly follow the best friend of a gal and see her reactions to the extra friend our gal has. Namely a ghost called Reiko. Yup. Our gal is haunted. But she doesn’t mind at all. She and Reiko are totally besties and have the greatest time. From playing games, to drinking boba tea (yes, the ghost can eat and drink, we don’t ask questions on how that works), there is a fun Halloween event (with Reiko dressed as… a ghost, yup XD), there are fun school moments, they are going shopping for make-up, and there is plenty more! There is never a dull moment I just loved seeing our MC get closer to Reiko and instead of wondering if this is all a good idea becomes friends with her instead. This manga really brought a smile on my face and I just flew through this first volume. It is perfect for the spooky season if you want something more light and funny but still spoopy.

I am very curious about what/who Reiko was. Why is she haunting our gal? I hope that as the story continues we find out more about that. I am happy with the story as it is, spooky but hilarious, but I really would like some seriousness in regards to what Reiko is as well.

Oh, and I love that not everyone can see Reiko. A lot of them do and the reaction to that is hilarious, then again, who wouldn’t be terrified when seeing something spooky behind someone? But for instance our gal’s dad cannot see him, whereas everyone in the family can. Which led to the poor dad feeling left out and trying desperately to participate in it. Hopefully he, just like his family, can see Reiko for real soon.

The art is really fun. At times a flair of spooky, but mostly it just fits with the slice of life/silly things that happen.

All in all, I need more of this series and I would love to see it get an official English/German release so more people can enjoy this one!
