Review: Mirabelle and the Magical Mayhem
It is time for a vacation to the grandparents, but what will happen when you add a nice dose of magics to that? Chaos!
In this delightful book it is time for a summer sleepover at the fairy grandparents of Mirabelle and her brother! They are looking forward to it a lot and I was eager to see more of the family + see where the fairies lived! Plus, of course, see if this time Mirabelle would be actually naughty or if misfortune just keeps stalking her.
Yes, that is right. She is naughty at times, and yes some of the things that happen in the books could have been prevented if she was just honest, but for most she just tries to fix things that aren’t always her fault. In this book it is the same. Her tiny dragon breathes fire, scorches the bed, and Mirabelle tries to fix it herself because she is worried for the reaction of the grandparents. I wouldn’t call that naughty. Naughty would be if she did something on purpose, something bad. Maybe my definition of naughty is just different from the author. I would say naughty is colouring the cat another colour (but then not for the reason to help them) or ringing someone’s doorbell and then running away, or taking away the cookies or candy you were said you couldn’t have. That kind of stuff. Not OMG, my dragon scorched my bed and I need to fix it.
But I loved seeing the chaos follow the whole fixing part, not just in regards to Mirabelle but also her brother. It really got mayhem and I was just laughing and wondering how long it would take for the grandparents to find out and see how they react! I just adored how the grandmother reacted and what happens next. And no, I won’t tell you. XD
I also loved seeing all the fun things they did together with their grandparents (and the brother learned a lesson about when the sun goes up). From yummy foods to going out for a swim to many other things and it just reminded me of my days of visiting my grandparents when I was a kid. They were rare occasions as they weren’t living nearby, but I remember them being fun!
The grandparents were so sweet and kind!
The illustrations were fabulous again and I just love the style.
All in all, not much a book about being naughty but more about chaos following Mirabelle wherever she goes. I had a lot of fun reading it!
