Review: Mutant Zombies Cursed My School Trip
Imaginary friends, real friends, a mysterious school trips, and zombies??? This was fun!
I saw this book at the second-hand shelves in a bookstore and I am so glad I took this with me. I was at first a bit hesitant as we find out he has an imaginary friend, but you know, that friend turned out to be one of the greatest characters in the book along with the MC.
Yes, our MC is a wonderful boy with maybe a dash too much imagination, haha. But we find out that has helped him a lot in the past. Due to his dad’s work he has moved around A LOT and has never really been able to make friends. So you can imagine that he imagined himself a friend. Who is more than willing to do all sorts of fun things with him, but who is also rooting for him to find some friends of himself (which I loved, I have read one too many story in which imaginary friends go angry/jealous so this was refreshing). I love that Ian was making great plans to make some friends on the school trip, he even had a couple he was very much willing to make friends with, two boys in his class who play the same game as he does. And so I found myself rooting so much for Ian to make some friends.
And the school trip, well, as soon as we got the villain POV (which I always hate, I am sorry, I am just not a fan of those) I knew that our class wouldn’t just have a fun historical weekend, but that they would have to be aware. Sadly, none of them is. But Ian is determined! He quickly figures out something is very much wrong and is determined to save his class and his new friends there.
I had so much fun reading about the zombies (vegetarians), about Daisy (who is always hungry), about the servant of the villain (who keeps losing his nose and I actually felt sorry for him), about the house and the many doors and where they lead to, seeing how those boys are including Ian and how fast they are becoming friends, seeing the plans of the villain go live and see what Ian was trying to do. There is seriously never a dull moment and I just flew right through this book in one go!
I am conflicted on the ending. On the one hand I loved it, on the other hand I would have rather seen him pick a different path.
The art in this book just was perfect. It is such a fun style~
I really need to get the other books in this series and see if they are just as fun as this one! I love that each one seems to be about a different kid in the class.
All in all, if you want a hilarious fun story featuring zombies and saving the world then this one is perfect for you this Spooktober~!
