Review: Most Haunted Castles
We are going to visit some VERY haunted spooky castles! This was oodles of fun!
I read Yvette Fielding’s Most Haunted Theatres back in 2024 and LOVED it, so I was eager to try this new book as well, and what best time than during Halloween?
In this one we visit 9 locations again, this time no theatres, this time we are visiting terrifying spooky castles! 7 of them are in the UK, but 2 are in Romania, and one of those two is even Dracula’s castle! Oh heck yes!
Just like the other book in the series each chapter starts with a location, followed by the ghosts one can meet/see there (from kids to white ladies to threatening presences) to what kind of paranormal activity is brewing there, you know throwing stuff, music, sounds, orbs, that stuff. I loved that each location starts with this to give a bit of an intro to what we can expect, that way you can get more hyped about it. After that we learn more about the history of the castle, some of them are OK, but some definitely scream OH YES I AM GOING TO GET SO HAUNTED. I really enjoyed reading about the history of the castles, however the favourite part of each location is reading about Yvette Fielding’s experiences at those places along with her crew. From ghosts yeeting around books in a library to doors just closing and not opening to strange footsteps and messages to warn them. It was just so much fun to read and I love how it just feels like you are there with the crew. Some parts were just terrifying and yes, I lost some sleep because of that, haha. But I don’t mind. It is worth it! I haven’t been able to, but just as I said in my review for the previous book, I should really go on Youtube and see if I can find her series there because I would love to see these things for real. My favourite castles? Definitely the Romania ones. Those were just NOPE NOPE NOPE. Especially the things that happened there. Way more over the top than in the UK. Though I have to say the girl luring people over the edge of a castle or whatever was lurking in that basement/cellar also were a big nope.
The writing style is just way too much fun! It really keeps you engaged and on your toes!
The illustrations by Hannah Shaw were fabulous once again. She really captures the spooky environment and the ghosts!
I cannot wait until next year when Haunted Houses comes out, which I think will be my absolute favourites. Don’t get me wrong, castles and theatres are fun, but houses is were it is at for me! I would recommend these books to all if you are in the mood to learn more about various hauntings~
