Review: Mary Anne’s Bad Luck Mystery: A Graphic Novel

Mary Anne's Bad Luck Mystery A Graphic Novel by Cynthia Yuan Cheng, Ann M. Martin, Girl wandering through the graveyard in the dark holding a flashlightIn this story Mary-Anne is our MC and we follow her as she gets a mysterious note and tons of bad luck!

I was looking for something spooky, but fun, to read during Halloween and came across this one! I had forgotten that there were so many GN already out for the Baby-Sitters Club. So I was excited to see what would happen in this one. And well, plenty happens, but at times I found myself rolling my eyes because you know that these books aren’t fantasy so all that bad luck? Just a coincidence. Because they are scared everything is amplified and even the smallest thing seems big bad luck, I mean everyone makes a spill. Everyone stumbles because of something. Instead of thinking logically people started to get grumpy at MA and MA started to hide more and more. But despite all this I was still happily reading on because I was curious to see who made the note, who gave the charm (and what the charm means), plus if the girls would be able to turn things around. I was rooting for them!

Not to mention, there is also Halloween coming up so we see the girls prepare (one of them helping her brother with a big fun cardboard robot for instance) and also see Halloween happen and the girls making a big spooky plan. Plus, there is plenty of baby-sitting!

I really enjoyed the art in this one! Definitely want to see what more Cynthia Yuan Cheng has created!

All in all, while the bad luck made my eyes roll, I did like this volume in the GN series and I will definitely have to read some more of these volumes now I remember they are there, haha.
