Review: Horror Collector, Vol. 4: The Blue Umbrella Nightmare
The newest Horror Collector and we get new urban legends, spooky things, bad endings, and more!
I am always so hype when a new volume of this series appears, this one definitely needs to get its own anime, I would LOVE seeing these urban legends (and the over-arching story) animated.
In this newest volume we get plenty of new spooky urban legends. Like chain texts/messages, what if they are not so innocent as one thinks? Or what if you are on a cruise and something is in the water? Or cookies with fun images, but what if you get a bad image? The author really found and made some interesting new spooky tales, and I had so much fun reading them. I love how some of the urban legends come back later again, like with the railway and the kids in there we get to see the otter cookies again. Plus, of course all the urban legends are connected to Fushigi and Himitsu and it is interesting to see how they are connected, like the one with the railway goes much deeper than just it being an urban legend and I love that.
The stories are very scary, I think the scariest would be the one about the railway followed by helmet.
Oh, and I always giggle when I see kids bring along their pets, my hamsters NEVER would have been happy and quiet in a bag or a pocket, they would sit there for a few seconds and then try to escape.
Of course, the manga art inside always makes me happy, they just give that extra OHH to the stories.
However, given the title, I had expected more Blue Umbrella guy, we only get to see him in the last bit for a very short moment. We do learn some stuff about him, and see that he is also pulling the very scary strings in many of the events, but I would love to see more of him.
Also, I get why Fushigi does what he does, but as I believe I have said before, I hate how at times he just walks away instead of trying to help. I am glad that eventually Jimmy gets him to help, but seriously, how many times did Fushigi just turn away and let a bad ending happen to kids who were dragged into Fushigi sister’s crap? It just pisses me off and makes me less sympathetic to Fushigi’s case.
But, all in all, despite some things, I still had a lot of fun with this book and I am having fun with the series. The urban legends are always terrifying and I love the over-arching story that we get as well. I would highly recommend this book and series to all.
