Review: Monster Hunting #3 Just Add Dragons

Monster Hunting #3 Just Add Dragons by Ian Mark, Louis Ghibault, Red cover with dragons and two kids trying to not get eatenThe third book in the Monter Hunting series and this time we are adding Dragons to the mix!

I read this one in Dutch, but I just ADORE this series and I want more people to read it so here I am writing a review in English!

😍 The cover + the title are a delight once again! I love both the English and the Dutch title.
😍 The illustrations are still so much fun to see! The really bring the story further to life, plus make me laugh many times.
😍 That this time we have dragons! Not just the one dragon we all know and like, but many more than that! I loved meeting them all, and see chaos erupt. I mean, a bus-eating dragon? Welp!
😍 The names of the dragons were just fantastic, I am not sure how they are in the English edition, but if they are anything like the Dutch ones you will be laughing your butt off. The previous book we got some fab names for nuns, well, the dragons also have their own. I love how creative the author is with thinking these names up.
😍 I could definitely understand Jack and his mission. I mean, if someone told me a family member was killed by x and I was a monster hunter or able to use wits and such to get my revenge? I would probably go on a journey as well. I did like that he wasn’t entirely sold yet on it and that as the story continued we could see him think about if he really wanted to push through with his revenge or not. I am happy that the author went for more darker thoughts, a lot of kids books still are a bit too positive, but in this case it wouldn’t have fitted if Jack was all OK with it and just wanted to find the dragon normally.
😍 That we got Dual POV at one point with his best friend Nancy who is over with Stoop trying to find Jack and find some dragons as well! Nancy is quite a fun character but she really shines in this one. I mean, anyone deserves a medal for putting up with Stoop, haha.
😍 I loved seeing pages from the monster hunting manual and get to meet more new monsters along the way, including some super disgusting ones that I cannot unsee or unread. Like monsters that live in the sewers and eat our waste, ewww.
😍 Loved the titles that the manual had, with each new event making a new one.
😍 The part when Jack goes to China! I don’t want to give much more away, but this was such a fun part, and I hope to visit again.
😍 The footnotes. At times my ADHD wasn’t too happy with them, but for most I loved them. They add a fun dimension to the story!
😍 The fourth wall breaking that happens at times.
😍 Now the question remains… what else is under D for Don’t exist, but actually exists?
😍 I liked finding out more about Jack’s mom, though it also broke my heart.
😍 There is tons of action, humour, and more, and I love the writing style and how you just want to continue reading this book.
😍 The last parts and the trick to get the dragons to be calm again.
😍 What Nancy did for that Professor (who I wasn’t always a fan of) and what that meant for the manual.

All in all, I could talk more about this book because BOY IT WAS SO FUN! But I will keep it at this and I would recommend this whole series to everyone. If you are in the need for something silly/humorous/full of monsters, be sure to check it out!
