Review: Murder on a Summer Break
The girls are back in town and this time we are at an Influencer Festival!
🥰 I loved the festival, I am also not that big on that stuff, but it does seem fun + a way to meet people I at times see on Youtube or TikTok.
🥰 The murders were GOOD. Interesting to see how they matched with the list that Kerry and Annie found in one influencer’s tents. I had fun sleuthing along with Kerry (and well sometimes Annie when she finally did something) and figure out the whodunnit. As things got more and more hairy and OMG who will survive of the group of influencers I was closing in on a culprit. Maybe even two. I did think it was funny that neither of our Tampon Two saw that coming, well, at least not until it was way clearer.
🥰 The first murder though gave me all the vibes of the previous books in which people were murdered with menstrual products.
🥰 Kerry is just such a fun, relatable, character and I am happy she is our MC and not Annie. I could definitely relate to her. Plus I love that, despite being shy and at times awkward, she was sure in what she wanted to do with Scott. You don’t always see that with characters like that and I can appreciate it. She is also such a smart character and I was rooting for her to figure things out and discover the culprit.
🥰 Each time someone died and how the boss of the influencers reacted, sorry, but that was just so true. Exaggerated but still with a bit of truth.
🥰 I had such a laugh at how Kerry seemingly wasn’t all about social media and the likes, but was the one with the encyclopedic knowledge on all the influencers. I loved that even she was confused by it.
🥰 Herbie!! He is just the cutest and I am happy that the girls are taking care of him both. Taking him with them to the festival.
🥰 Annie vs that police guy.
🥰 How this feels a lot like Louise Rennison in style but now with added murder and mystery. I seriously miss Louise Rennison, she had such a wonderful style of writing that always made me laugh, and I am so happy that I found something that has the same feel!
🥰 That despite all the moves that Dougie put on Kerry she stuck to Scott. I have to say this was almost a negative, but I am happy that while she was flirting a bit and drooling, she kept coming back to her senses, THANK YOU.
🥰 The cover! It is simple but oh so much fun! I am definitely curious what the next book’s colour will be!
🥰 The feminist parts, or well, that it isn’t so over the top. I don’t mind feminism in my book, but sometimes it just is too much. For instance I still don’t get why saying Bitches is bad if it isn’t meant as a bad thing. Or the whole vulva to you was just rolls eyes. But I did like the other parts. Influencer girls getting the same sponsors as the boys. Also getting the same opportunities. That stuff. And others.
🥰 The influencer group was quite fun. The various characters in there from horrendous Timmy with a way too big ego to Ethan who thinks he knows all about feminism and doesn’t seem to understand all women in the world cringe when he talks to Celeste who was my favourite and I loved getting to know here more and see she is way different than her influencer persona to Millie who had some interesting ways to see things (be it fake or real) to Dougie who was hot sexy but also sus.
🥰 Sorry, but I had a laugh when the boss of the influencers added new peeps to the group and that was mostly because of their names. Seriously, how did she find those?
😱 I was shocked when we found out that! I was just LIKE WAIT NOOO. But then again, that also explained a lot of things. Plus, I am glad that they were able to talk things out in the end.
🤔 I already had issues with Annie in the previous book. Often she is like a good best friend, but sometimes she just gets WAY too obnoxious. And in this one, I knew what was happening (and shipping it like mad), but Kerry doesn’t and so I was just angry that Annie would constantly be away. Didn’t care about the investigation she was so hyped about. Instead of just telling her bestie about why she is with Celeste all the time she doesn’t and then gets defensive when Kerry tries to ask her about things/wants to investigate.
But all in all, I really enjoyed this one greatly and I definitely am hoping for more books!
