Review: You’re Invited to a Creepover GN #6: Best Friends Forever

Best Friends Forever The Graphic Novel by P.J. Night, two girls in a dark room surrounded by dollsThis graphic novel really brings the original novel to life and it is super spooky!

I am big fan of this series (OK, there were of course books that weren’t totally my cup of tea), so I was excited when I saw the books would be getting the graphic novel treatment. They aren’t the easiest to find, so I was delighted to be able to buy this one on Libristo and in December finally reading it! I have read the normal novel twice or so, so I knew the story, but I was curious to see how it would work in this format.

And I have to say, perfectly. We get to see both Whitney and Katie’s POV. Whitney is new and from the start, thanks to the amazing art, you know that something is up with her and her doll collection. The dolls look a bit too perfect. Whitney is just a bit too shady/creepy with how obsessed she is. She acts a bit too much like someone who has been around long. Then there is Katie whose best friend moved away and she is now all lonely, we see her struggle with things and see her have a hard time, especially with her BFF slowly chatting less and less and not visiting. The two girls click, or well, Katie is a bit unsure, and frankly, I could understand that. In the normal novel Whitney already had a shady vibe, but in this graphic novel she just screams RED FLAG, haha. We see the girls hang out together, chat, have sleepovers, and we see things getting progressively creepy. Which I love. The graphic novel really brings the spookiness to life, especially during the sleepovers. Too be honest, if I heard that at night? Or any of the other creepy stuff? I would have just ran. Bye. Sorry. Not interested. I will find another friend. XD

I wasn’t a fan of Katie’s BFF. Maybe there is something darker at play, but for now I just found her rude. It’s only been a month or so and she totally turned away from Katie. Barely answers, doesn’t want to visit. You know how real your friendship is when they move away I guess.

Of course, this being a graphic novel there were bits I missed. Like, for instance, I remember Whitney’s dad being around a bit more. They still did a great job with the adaptation and I know that you cannot add everything. It is just like movies, you have to make choices.

The ending was spooooooky! And terrifying! Even knowing what happens I was terrified. Thanks to the art.

I would definitely like a sequel to this story, only then someone who isn’t changing into a doll, instead saves everyone else and makes sure that Whitney never does this again.

All in all, another hit for me in the Graphic Novel series and I definitely hope to read the others as well + of course I am hoping that there will be a graphic novel for each of the books! There are some that I would love to see adapted to this medium, and there are a few I wasn’t such a fan of and I want to see if it works better in this medium.
