Spell the Month in Books January 2025
Afternoon all!
A happy welcome to the very first Spell the Month in Books for 2025! dances Hello January~
This time it was quite easy, well, OK, until I read the only R book before this post and hated it and I had to find another R, this time for an author. But all the other ones? Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy! I found them in no time throughout my shelves. So yeah, I am happy that yet another longer month is Spelled Out and we are getting back to smaller months. I do love a challenge, don’t get me wrong, but sometimes I just want some easier stuff. Haha.
This time I picked from these shelves: To Read Review (1 book), To Read Home (1 book), Need to Buy (4 books), Pre-ordered/Bought (1 book). A fun mix!
The original creator of this tag is Reviews From The Stacks!

Will the brothers survive in this strange Altiverse where everything is ALMOST like home but ISN’T? And how do you stop an evil villain from sabotaging your dad’s world-changing technology when in this universe your dad doesn’t even know who you are?
But for now there’s only one question in Adam’s mind: how do they get back home?
The city has a new protector, and he’s NEIGH KID! Join in and read one of the most incredible adventures ever told about a boy who goes through an astonishing transformation to become the superhero we all need!
In Neigh Kid’s debut adventure, a young, unassuming boy dons his horse mask and cape (it’s actually a towel) and sets off into the night to keep the city safe. His mission? To rescue his beloved cat, who has escaped into the moonlit streets.
The vibrant illustrations add a touch of ‘cheeky’ humour while remaining perfectly tasteful. With its playful storyline and endearing characters, this book will become a storytime favourite read for children and caregivers alike as it also celebrates bravery, imagination, and the bond between a boy and his pet.
What do you do when there’s calamity afoot? GET NEIGH KID!

Evie Sage has never been happier to be the assistant to The Villain. Who would have thought that working for an outrageously handsome (shhh, bad for his brand) evil overlord would be so rewarding? Still, the business of being bad is demanding, the forces of good are annoyingly persistent, and said forbidding boss is somewhat…er, out-of-evil-office.
But Rennedawn is in grave trouble, and all signs―Kingsley’s included―point to catastrophe. Something peculiar is happening with the kingdom’s magic, and it’s made The Villain’s manor vulnerable to their enemies…including their nemesis, the king.
Now it’s time for Evie to face her greatest challenge: protecting The Villain’s lair, all of his nefarious works, and maybe (provided no one finds out) the entire kingdom. No pressure, Evie.
It’s time to step out of her comfort zone and learn new skills. Like treason. Dagger work. Conspiring with the enemy. It’s all so…so…delightfully fun.
But what happens when the assistant to The Villain is ready to become his apprentice?
Tales Accursed is the second collection of classic supernatural stories selected by the artist Richard Wells. Each of the sixteen tales is accompanied by one of Richard’s striking lino-print illustrations.
This anthology contains work from both the established masters of folk horror, and some more surprising from Shirley Jackson and M. R. James to E. F. Benson and William Croft Dickinson. Tales Accursed will raise the hairs on your neck and keep you alert to the slightest rustle in the through the chill splendour of moonlit nights come apparitions through the orchard; sea-witches perch on the sharp fangs of rocks as they weave their spells; fir-woods lie unnaturally still with no birdsong, no breeze, nor any undergrowth; and hooded creatures crouch on grey secluded beaches. This book combines ancient horrors from the wilderness with sinister shadows of the landscape to remind us of the settings of our ancestors.
Tales Accursed is a gloriously creepy collection of chilling folk horror tales that is both thrilling and unnerving.
