Review: Spirited #3: Greenhouse of Horror
The third book in the Spirited graphic novel series and this time plants, new friends, and more!
I am really having fun with this series so of course, when I had the chance, I had to get the next two books in the series. I hope that by the time that this review comes up (I am writing this early December) there will be more volumes announced, because I definitely want more of this fun series!
In this third volume we see that Liv is doing much and much better at her new school (and in her new town). Yes, she still is getting used to the strangeness that is everything, I mean, if I went from normal human stuff to having ghosts, vampires, werewolves, and whatever else around? I would also not know what to do. Especially since sometimes the ghosts just don’t seem to understand that humans will never float, or will be able to float. Or go through walls. Thankfully, Liv has plenty of help and ingenuity to get out of situations or make the best of it. Like when the custodian of the school brought her a ladder because the door to home room was just way too high for humans.
Plus, we get a fun new addition, say hello to the greenhouse, a place I so wanted to visit even if it is a big dangerous (because of course ghosts don’t have normal plants all over, haha), plus an even more fun project. The kids have to bring along a plant that represents them. I was curious what Liv would pick and I was of course also curious what her friends would pick (OK, well, for wolfboy I had an idea, haha). The visit to the plant shop was oh so much fun (that shopkeeper just LOVES her plants), especially when we meet the girl who was so kind to Liv (such a sweet character). I loved seeing a friendship bloom, but also see what Liv picked for her project! It was a lot of fun and I was so proud of Liv because she definitely had her doubts at times, but it all got there in the end.
I just felt for the ghost kids, never being able to graduate it seems. I would have loved to see them at least go through school even though they don’t age. Unless they do and it was just unclear.
The art was a lot of fun again, just like in the previous two volumes. I do have to say that I didn’t recognise Liv when she just woke up and her hair was all wild and free. I was like, who is that girl? Oh, it is Liv. XD
Also can the cheerleader girl ghost just f off, I am sorry, but she is so annoying/obnoxious. Bleh!
The only thing I would say is that I wish the ghosts, those at school especially, would treat Liv a bit better. They go through her many times which I just found horrible rude because no thank you, but also made fun at her for being human. I get that she is the only human (other than her parents) in the town apparently, but still, come on. She is treating you all with respect as well.
All in all, I would recommend this series to everyone. Ghosts, magic, friendship, and more!
